Overall Satisfaction with SAP BW/4HANA

Currently we are a BW on HANA shop, and have explored BW/4HANA in PoC environments, as well as established it as our target Data warehouse. It will address all of our Finance, HCM, and Supply Chain reporting and Analytics Data Warehousing requirements, providing access to data across multiple business process, sourced from multiple business applications, and together with BObj BI will provide our business users visibility to key insights.

Pros

  • Excellent integration with SAP systems and Data sets.
  • Simplified data modelling due to columnar data base.

Cons

  • Better integration with external data providers.
  • More cost effective licensing model.
  • More flexible options for external systems provisioning data from BW/4HANA.
  • Provides insight to key financial and HR performance indicators.
  • Has allowed us to leverage data from both our on premise and cloud solutions.
  • Security model ensure flexible yet restricted access to those who need it.
  • Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance
Both are comparable with the advantage going to BW for SAP integration, simplified data modeling, and overall performance. Both play a key part in our overall data warehousing strategy and are complementary based on each of their strengths specific to data provisioning, and integration into our broader enterprise architecture. Our long term strategy will likely retain both but with tighter integration.
Mature support model relying on both SI and Application management support partner, as well as SAP support, and HPE HANA infrastructure support team. The appliance model is the simpler model, as it provides easier access to large patch and support pack database, as well as the introduction of new capabilities.
SAP BW/4HANA requires specialized skillsets around data warehouse modeling and the access to data, however the modeling capabilities are intuitive and have now become accessible to both SAP and non-SAP data warehouse specialists. This new model allows for Interchangeable skillsets and access to a broader pool of experts throughout the industry, as well as easier access to data.

Solid data warehouse based on best-in-class in-memory HANA database with excellent integration into SAP solutions, as well as predelivered business content facilitating initial implementation. Leverages the best of SAP's architecture and flexible data warehousing capabilities, without compromising performance and simplification. Will be key enabler to our Finance and HCM analytics roadmap.
