Overall Satisfaction with SAP Datasphere

Previously, we were using Google Analytics on all our sites to visualize user analytics, behaviors, etc. But recently, we made the switch to SAP Datasphere, which is also a SaaS. As our organization was already using SAP BTP, we were able to make the switch to SAP Datasphere conveniently, which helped us in Data Discovery and distribution. This was particularly needed in our organization as we have a vast number of data-oriented platforms and have a huge number of clients using those. Hence, we started using SAP Datasphere for tracking, managing, and modeling those data across all our platforms.

Pros

  • Catalogs data across all our platforms into a single and centralised hub.
  • Data Discovery, Data Governance and of course real time visualisation of data.
  • Includes access controlled mechanism to monitor data reading privileges.

Cons

  • Need to have a good understanding of the SAP ecosystem to implement and use it.
  • From a cost perspective it can be little bit on the expensive side for enterprises.
  • The platform is still new and hence more subjected to bugs. But support for it is always good from the SAP team.
  • Enhanced our report generation process due to presence of holistic data.
  • Centralized data from all our platforms. This has helped us visualize and analyze all data much more efficiently.
  • It is more on the expensive side from both cost and training perspective.
As mentioned earlier, just our team has more than 200 sites contained within six different platforms (Acquia, Azure, Pantheon, Platform. sh, AWS, and SAP course). We were using SAP Analytics Cloud for some sites, Google Analytics for some sites, and Adobe Analytics for the rest. Hence, we needed different skill sets to handle and visualize those data. But now, after the switch to SAP Datasphere, this has changed immensely. As we were already in the SAP ecosystem, the switch was easier and the training, though it took a month, was really smooth. Now, we have all our data in one place for all our needs.
Having different visualization tools for different customers was a hassle for us as well. But after SAP Datasphere, this has improved a lot. We have some sites using the SAP platform as well, where we do transaction-oriented functionalities like invoices, attachment services, and more. Interfacing with these data has been so convenient after SAP Datasphere. It is now much easier to visualize and manage all data.
After interfacing all our platforms to SAP Datasphere, we were able to centralize all data, which in turn helped us to discover, model, and analyze all data in a single place. One aspect of SAP Datasphere I liked really was the ability to control and give controlled privileges to clients to what they only need to see and interact with. This was particularly necessary as we have all the data in a single centralized form now.
To simply answer the query - Yes and Yes. Truly, we were very skeptical about using this new software that SAP was trying to sell us. But to our surprise after the training period was over and after the implementation was done it was wonderful to use. The best part is how it centralized data from all our platforms (the ones where we implemented). It helped us in Data Discovery, modeling, analyzing, and of course visualizing.
I am only going to talk about the visualizing and analytics part of SAP Datasphere because if I start listing what the whole SAP ecosystem provides, then it would not even be a comparison. In a summary, Google Analytics is high-level. Of course, the introduction of the new GA4 system, goes into depth but not as much as what SAP Datasphere does. Adobe Analytics, in one line, is very good at the analytics and reporting part but has a steep learning curve. That's all.

Do you think SAP Datasphere delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with SAP Datasphere's feature set?

Yes

Did SAP Datasphere live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of SAP Datasphere go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy SAP Datasphere again?

Yes

The sites and platforms that we implemented already were using SAP BTP and SAP Ariba, and hence were well suited and habituated to the SAP ecosystem. Hence making the switch to SAP Datasphere along with SAP Cloud Analytics wasn't that difficult for our team and organisation. Just our team has more than 200 sites contained in 6 different platforms. Tracking, modeling, and analyzing data across all these different platforms was very cumbersome for us sometimes. But SAP Datasphere, with its Data Discovery, was able to centralize all those data which we were easily able to model and analyze.
