Overall Satisfaction with SAP HANA

SAP HANA is used for one single central ERP. This ERP manages more than 10b euros. I am in charge of the daily work of the ERP. I connect and optimize HANA capabilities within my team all the time. Our HANA database enables us to manage a lot of data and set up real-time reporting.

Pros

  • Columnar storage
  • Data aging functionality
  • Replication mechanism

Cons

  • Memory management
  • Help to identify ABAP programs to optimize
  • Clear strategy on the roadmap
  • Expensive hardware.
  • Many systems to optimize, and multitenant architecture is not mature.
Operational reporting, like embedded analytics and custom reports, has been implemented using SAP HANA's real-time capabilities.
In order to be able to connect with third parties, supporting all formats of files and the latest data technologies is a must and mandatory for my company.
SAP HANA is more mature and more powerful.
Expertise is not available at all SAP support levels. For P1 tickets yes, but not for daily issues.

SAP HANA database is suitable for real-time reporting scenarios. It is also suited to manage critical business by setting up multiple high availability scenarios. Replication could also be helpful to activate active-active scenarios and improve ERP performances.

Overall, it's a fair competitor. SAP HANA has advanced in memory technology and has a lot of hardware partners.
