Overall Satisfaction with SAP HANA

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

SAP HANA solves our performance issues coupled with S/4HANA. It is used
in our whole organization (70000 people in 50 countries). All business
transactions are actually using SAP HANA, at least for most of our
countries.

We also use a secondary SAP HAHA
Database to consolidate data and use it for our
business intelligence reports.

SAP HANA Real-Time Processing

Yes, we use the embedded analytics functionalities behind S/4HANA which rely on the SAP HANA in-memory database. It is actually quite powerful, small reports are loaded very fast with real time data. However our CPU usage has increased and it might impact our main business functionalities for big reports.

SAP HANA Data Type Support

These data type supports are not very important for use. We only use the standard relational database in our SAP HANA. It supports our S/4HANA system.

SAP HANA Complex Business Logic

It allows the creation of more performant reports. No need to upload data into the application server, all the calculations and business rules are applied directly in the database. Code is easier to understand on the application server side. However, a huge CPU usage was generated by these modifications. So the infrastructure should be very important (and expensive) to run them conveniently.

Alternatives Considered

Oracle Database

SAP HANA is better integrated with S/4HANA (we did not have any choice). It can only be run using a HANA Database.

Support Rating

On some topics. Embedded Analytics for instance, it is very difficult to find experts. The documentation of Hana modelling is not up to date. Some normal SQL operators are not available on HANA for example. It was hard to find this information on the web.

But we have not contact the SAP HANA support that much

Likelihood to Recommend

SAP HANA is perfect for my company. However for BI scenarios, it's a bit more complicated as the OLAP and OLTP engine is not fast. We are also having a lot of trouble with the CPU usage of the database. The integrated scenarios are ok, they are easily escalated into a productive solution.
