Overall Satisfaction with SAP HANA
We are currently using SAP HANA on our corporate business warehouse. It allows us to use the BW software suite on top of the HANA database and leverage in-memory storage that leads to faster data loads and simplified data modeling.
Pros
- Performance in reporting and data loading using HANA in-memory database capabilities.
- Perform complex queries, detailed analysis, and high data volume with HANA optimized objects.
- High level of data compression.
Cons
- High storage cost.
- Limited hardware compatibility.
- Issues when running on a hybrid solution (partly on cloud and partly on-premise).
- Power to handle bigger data.
- Real-time analytics capability.
- Flexibility and versatility.
In my opinion, the main benefit is we waste no time loading data from one location to another. We can do up-to-the-moment information or process reports in a very easy way. Also, there's a possibility to combine operational data with other data sources (both SAP and non-SAP).
In my opinion, these data types let us work with big data scenarios. Data types like JSON allows our data to be unstructured, can be nested and has depth.
This feature definitely leads to a better performance because we are pushing down the hard work to the underlying database. So, yes, this has impacted our analytics operations.
