Overall Satisfaction with SAP HANA

We’re using SAP HANA as a database for a custom web app. The application performs thousands of calculations per day, all requiring some level of database query. We needed a fast, reliable database for this application.

Yes, we have benefited from this. As mentioned, our application performs thousands of transactions each day, which the database reads and writes. Having real-time insight into what is going on and analytics makes this very useful.

Most of our applications are relational databases, and that’s all we have leveraged so far with SAP HANA. Having a wide support isn’t as crucial at this juncture, but we will be actively investing in its use with other database and data set types in the coming year, so it’s nice to know we have some options!

Yes, the calculations performed in our core implementation are very complex and heavy. Having Hess calculations performed at this level appears to be a contributing factor to the increased performance we have seen during the implementation. This will ensure our application can continue to scale with our business needs moving into the next two to five years.

We were using PostgreSQL prior to SAP HANA. The biggest difference that is noticed from an end-user standpoint is the speed with which database transactions take place. Because of the growing scale of our application, we really needed something faster. PostgreSQL just wasn’t cutting it. Glad we gave SAP HANA a shot!

SAP HANA processes large amounts of data very efficiently and very quickly. It allows for parallel processing, which speeds up everything you are trying to do while interacting with the database. If planning to connect to an ERP system, beware, as there may be some compatibility issues that require some architecture changes. Depending on the scale of your systems, this may or may not be problematic, but something to keep in mind.
