Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We used SAP Hana Cloud to help consolidate many data sources and perform ETL processes. In addition, we used it as a repository for customer transaction data that we then used to determine SKUs that needed more attention in terms of restocking and replenishment.

Pros

"Learns" as you go; more intelligent decision-making
Is able to automatically infer data structure and data types
Makes quick decisions easier due to logic-based processing

Cons

Steep learning curve to learn the platform
Not the best solution for all data (ie. some transaction data could not be processed)
Uses a lot of memory for tasks that do not seem to necessitate it

SAP HANA Real-Time Processing

Yes, we have utilized this function. Since the database does not need to be stored externally and everything is on-the-fly, analytics for dashboards, for example, can be done faster and more real-time. We created a transactional dashboard where stakeholders could view all transactions; this was made possible by this technology.

SAP HANA Data Type Support

The data types mentioned are not particularly pertinent, since we do not utilize them extensively, with the exception of text. Many alternative platforms are not able to process plain text, which sets SAP Hana Cloud apart for us.

SAP HANA Complex Business Logic

Yes, it has. We used to have to transfer transactional data between systems to be able to mine it for usable trends and analytics. Now, SAP Hana Cloud makes it faster and easier since it can all be done within one single platform. Our analytics operations have gotten faster and more responsive as a result of implementing it.

Alternatives Considered

SAP Hana Cloud is more feature-packed and has higher quality features than many alternatives. It is also the market leader, which made it a no-brainer for us.

Support Rating

If we ever had an issue or a problem, we could either email or call the support center. Our questions and requests for help were always prioritized, and I felt that the responses were always thorough and complete.

SAP Hana Cloud performs extremely well when you have an unstructured dataset that needs additional processing/cleaning prior to database loading. It is able to make sense of different data sources and combine them seamlessly.
