Overall Satisfaction with Shift

I use Shift to help with my individual productivity. It acts as an easy dashboard for all of the web apps that I use for work in one convenient window, so that I don't have to have a bunch of desktop apps or browers tabs open.

Pros

  • Keeps things organized in an intuitive way
  • Compatible with all the apps that I use on a regular basis
  • Great setting to be able to customize the dashboard

Cons

  • Not being able to open Slack Huddle windows so that I can see when people share their screen
  • Increased productivity. I no longer have to carve time out of my day to close and reorgnize so many windows and tabs.
  • Reduced stress due to improved organization. For example, instead of having to search for the window I opened gmail on, which is very difficult when you have a lot of tabs open, or opening multiple gmail tabs on multiple windows, which adds to the cluttered tabs that make things difficult to find, I know I can always find it on Shift.
  • Allows my laptop to run better. I had way too many tabs and windows open before Shift, and it made my computer time out regularly.
I've integrated with Google Apps since we use Gmail. It's great having the Google Apps in their own designated area on the top right. I love that it can be customized to only include the Google Apps I use the most.

Slack is what I use Shift for most often, so it's great to have that as my main page with other apps close at hand on the Shift dashboard, since a lot of what triggers me to go to the other apps stems from Slack.

As a manager, the Culture Amp integration is great. I love being able to simply click over to it so that I can add notes to my 1-on-1 agendas.

I also use the Notion and Figma integration occasionally.
It's increased my productivity a lot. Things used to get lost in all of my web brower tabs, so I had to spend time searching, which was very frustrating, or open new tabs, which made open tabs harder to sift through. Too many tabs would overload my computer and trigger a "forced quit" of everything. Then I would have to reopen the tabs I needed again. This led me to carving out time during the day to reorganize and close tabs on my browser to stay sane and to prevent my computer from having a melt down. I no longer have to spend time doing all of that every day.
Shift is very intuitive and customizable. Things are organized in a way that makes sense (Google apps in the top right; Other apps on the bottom left, which you can reorder if you'd like). And there's enough visual separation from the main screen and the app menus to make things easy to delineate.

On a daily basis, I have at least 3 browser windows open on my regular web browser with 3 or more tabs open in each window. These windows have tabs that are related to the project or task that I'm working on. But besides that, I need to keep an eye on Slack messages and notifications from my calendar; need Slack handy when I have a thought/idea I need to jot down; need Culture Amp handy when I need to add to my 1-on-1 agenda which might be sparked by the project/task I'm working on; need to keep an eye on incoming emails; need to check on my or other people's calendars; or need to create or reference something in notion. I also very much dislike popup notifications and audible notifications. If I try to do that all with my web browser, things would get lost or missed very easily. If I downloaded Desktop Apps, my app icon bar would get very cluttered. With Shift, I just always have it open and cascade the window I'm working on over it, so that I'm able to see the visual notifications easily.
