My review on Sitecore Digital Experience Platform, with 15 years of experience with Sitecore.
Overall Satisfaction with Sitecore Digital Experience Platform
Our business currently hosts two websites with the Sitecore Digital Experience Platform. The corporate website hosts valuable information for our prospective members. These members are currently undertaking the course and provide continuous professional development training throughout their careers until retirement. It is an obvious website for all our member audiences with different journey stages and segments. Our other website provides excellent editorial articles for both the finance and accounting industries, with collaborators/contributors/authors within the industry giving valuable insights. It is an award-winning website.
Pros
- Flexible layout management in Experience Management (XM).
- Headless Architecture.
- Multi lingual and multi site support.
- Content Hub's big offering.
- Experience Edge.
- CDP's flexible external connectivity.
- Personalize
- Connect with Wokato iPaaS platform.
Cons
- Workflows for a page and the associated components can be better in XM.
- An OOTB Content Review schedule/process.
- Automatic publishing that works with the Publishing Restrictions with dates in XM.
- Cache Tuning and Database tuning have been left to implementers to implement in XM.
- Sitecore Search, when comparing to Coveo, is not quite there.
- The implementation team seems to need to build connectivity between various products.
- More showcase of Content Hub CMP and PCM features are needed.
- XM Cloud seems entirely locked into a particular way of doing things. Potentially making existing migration from XM/XP to XM Cloud challenging.
- More support for Sitecore Forms Embeddable Framework and more examples are required. Conditional logic and other custom-built components can be complicated and tricky.
- Ability to build out very complex pages, with reusable components.
- Sitecore Powershell Extensions enabled the dev/support team to run various auditing requirements for the business.
- The DAM connector to Sitecore XM/XP allows the entire media library to be offloaded away from XM/XP. Fantastic tracking capabilities.
- A significant ramp-up is required for CDP, which teams must be aware of. However, this problem is not exclusive to Sitecore.
We are currently on v10.3.1 Headless. The latest/modernized way of setting everything up is very streamlined compared to what we have, especially with Vercel, NextJS, and XM Cloud, which use many of the XM Cloud OOTB functionalities.
We are currently running two sites and will create a new one soon. The Site Management functionality is fantastic, as shown by installing the Sitecore Experience Accelerator. However, the Sitecore dev team must adhere to the development practice outlined in training, which is that everything must be built to support multiple sites from the start.
Adobe Marketo Engage is a fantastic product for managing campaigns and audience segmentations syncing with Adobe Audience Manager. It also has OOTB connectivity to very popular CRM platforms. Adobe Analytics and Adobe Target are pretty similar to Sitecore CDP/Personalize. Any custom/extension implementation required in the Adobe space has the same complexity as Sitecore.
