Overall Satisfaction with Sitecore Experience Platform

We used this platform to create more than 20k landing pages for our website. For us, we liked how the platform allowed us to add, delete, duplicate components to have a consistent look and feel of the website. The products we offer are diverse and thus we need to make sure that the look and feel of the website is in accordance with product types (or categories).
Example: We wanted to have all black backgrounds for products related to Cinema and white for Healthcare and thus we need to make sure that our components are created accordingly.
  • Previewing content- Its exactly as it would be once live
  • Easy to add, delete, modify or duplicate content on any component
  • Page structure is creation is easy- we can even choose icons to have symbolic representation of components we added on a page
  • Everything has an id assigned to it which makes our searches easy as we can simply inspect the page to find an if of component we are searching for
  • We can use same component on multiple pages, which make our life easier as we just need to edit a component once and it will be synced with all the pages themselves
  • Searching something is difficult, we need to backtrack a lot within Sitecore Experience Platform
  • I found Sitecore Experience Platform to be a bit slow, it takes time to load things
  • Its difficult to work with when we need every page and components to have translations
  • Publish items and subitems is possible but sub-sub items need to be published manually or we need to create scripts
  • We faced issues while integrating it with other tools like Marketo and salesforce
  • Difficult to manage translations in this CMS
  • Easy to create user roles, categories, page structure and tags
We experienced issues with this CMS and thus switched from Sitecore Experience Platform to AEM and both of them have their own pro and cons.
While Sitecore Experience Platform provides flexibility to copy properties from one page to other, AEM doesnot allow that.. we need to manually add everything in AEM pages which is time consuming. Sometimes, I do miss Sitecore Experience Platform.

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Sitecore Experience Platform go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Sitecore Experience Platform again?

No

We need to spend a lot of time to learn things in Sitecore Experience Platform. I used it for 6 years and there was always something new to learn. Try to start using shortcuts as soon as you start working on it as it really saves a lot of time. Sitecore Experience Platform has maximum number of features which is good but then you need to spend time learning them all
