Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds ipMonitor
SolarWinds was brought into our PROD/DEV environments. The infrastructure was growing and we needed a solid product with back end support. A plus is the ability to rescale with a shopping cart full of free tools and further products you can add to the overall package. The NetFlow analyzer was awesome when it came out, we could see everything all shown as traffic flows. The ability to monitor Network, Hardware, and Databases for an infrastructure spanning 4 DC's and 3 different office's spread over hundreds of miles. They are constantly adding tools and features with a community forum that is always growing in depth, with solutions and support.

- Configuration can be a bear in large environments.
- Tuning your hardware monitors can be tricky; it's different for each one.
- There is a learning curve, but worth the effort.
- SOC compliance allows us to keep and bring in customers.
- See when backups overnight were failing which will break PROD.
- One clean solution.
I've used simple scripted monitoring tools before, used IP monitor until we upgraded the enterprise to one scalable tool that can replace and upgrade per SLA SOX compliance standards. I moved to a larger company (much larger) and we don't use SolarWinds here. We use WUG which has its perks but nowhere near the support, tools, community, and overall simplicity. It has helped me noticed how nice SolarWinds was and is.
