Overall Satisfaction with SolarWinds Network Configuration Manager (NCM)

Our IT Infrastructure team uses NCM to automate backups of all of our network devices. We also use this for keeping up to date on firmware versions, and for configuration change logging.
  • Automated Backups.
  • Change Logging & Rollback.
  • Firmware version vulnerability information.
  • Cisco IOS Updates directly from the NCM console.
  • Multi device config information, like scripting.
  • Non Cisco device information is not as detailed.
  • Able to eliminate SFTP Server for backing up network devices, one less server license to re-up annually.
  • Centralized reporting and management for all backups in one locations saves time.
  • Greater visibility with possible vulnerabilities means faster remediation times and less risk.
We have cut down on the manual process of managing device backups via SFPT/SCP. We no longer have to manage a shared location and delete backups after a certain amount of time, NCM does it for us.
We have seen an improvement in the way we are handling network device backups. Being stored in a central location and deleting older versions automatically saves tons of time. We are also using the version information provided by NCM for all of our devices to stay on top of any possible security threats in the versions of firmware running on our devices.
  • SolarWinds Storage Resource Monitor
  • SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor
  • SolarWinds IP Address Manager
  • SolarWinds Netflow Traffic Analyzer
  • SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor
  • SolarWinds VoIP and Network Quality Manager
We moved away from a managed NOC, to a self managed SolarWinds suite. We set up custom alerts, and monitoring which have been working very well from our organization. We can get email, text alerting for different groups and can customize alerting on a very granular level, so we have ultimate control over when something actually triggers an alert and who that alert goes to. We have saved thousands of dollars by moving to SolarWinds. We also use the reporting features and insights for monthly metrics and forecasting.
We have a very diverse IT environment (Cisco/Palo Alto, VMWare, Cisco UC, SD-WAN, Windows Servers) and we wanted to have one suite of software that we could manage as many of our different areas in one single pane of glass. SolarWinds allows the network team, VOIP team, Storage and Systems teams to all use the same platform to get their monitoring, alerting and reporting.
SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (npm), SolarWinds NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA), PingPlotter
If you have a lot of network hardware from a large manufacturer, especially Cisco I would definitely recommend NCM. The ability to log any changes and compare configurations from multiple days is a life saver. Have NCM running on it's own and backing up all of our devices, gives us one more layer of redundancy for our configs.
