Overall Satisfaction with Sophos SG Firewall Appliances

We use the Sophos SG Firewall at a remote building to provide parameter security including port blocking, Intrusion detection, URL filtering, threat prevention and VPN capabilities to ensure the building network is secure. The firewall provides real time data back to our central portal allowing my team to consistently monitor and assess.

Pros

Cons

  • We would like more feature reach port blocking. This could be reorganized to make it easier on Network Admins to add or change ports.
  • I would like easier access to the CLI
  • I would like it to perform faster
  • RoI is easy to achieve with Sophos firewalls as they are on the cheaper side of firewall costs
  • The product work well for small environments or building needs
  • The security features meet or exceed our internal and governance requirements
The firewall really is easy to use. I can tell they have spend a lot of time making sure the firewall is easy to configure and manage. Even if the screens can seem repetitive and task full. I like the integration with the Central Portal for a one stop security setting.
I selected Sophos SG Firewall over Cisco and Barracuda because of cost. Sophos SG Firewall is very aggressive and offers competitive pricing when compared to Cisco and Barracuda. My rating scale would go however: Cisco 1, Barracuda 2 and Sophos SG Firewall 3 with regards to features and functions. This is based on using or evaluating all three products.

I think for smaller implementations the firewall works well. The advantage is it is part of the Sophos Central Portal. Which is our central security portal. The firewall does not require a lot of training compared to major firewall brands that have deep complex coding systems of control. The Sophos SG Firewall is easy to understand and use with its policy based port configuration and additional security features.
