Overall Satisfaction with Oracle SQL Developer
SQL Developer is mainly being used by my department. Other areas do not use it, they much rather use TOAD. Though, a lot of areas do not use SQL at all also.
Pros
- It honestly is a great tool for being able to find errors in code.
- I taught myself how to do SQL within SQL developer.
- There are great support pages/Youtube videos online.
Cons
- I wished that it truly pinpointed every error exactly as we see it. Usually, it is not the case.
- Sometimes, the actual system can freeze up on you (Has happened to me on both home and office network numerous of times) but I expect it sometimes due to the amount of data.
- Honestly, they could improve extraction of data.
- It assisted us in revamping some processes, testing codes and making them it more efficient and self-serviceable
- It is a key aid in our data governance project.
- It also has a lot of things we have yet to uncover at the moment so it is exciting to learn the ins and outs of the tool
I think that Toad may be a better tool for actual developers but not for analysts. Notepad++ is great, and I use it and SQL Developer hand in hand with each other.
