Overall Satisfaction with Oracle SQL Developer

SQL Developer is an indispensable tool used primarily for data mining and analysis. We have data in many repositories and using proper drivers we can connect to various back ends and merge data. Most non technical personnel do not have knowledge to perform SQL queries so we find using SQL Developer very useful in this regard. We like that we can also interface with SQL Server. So primarily we use it for data mining and analysis.
  • It easily connects to Oracle DBS.
  • The query optimization tools are easy to use.
  • Getting details about existing objects using scripts. It's portability into different file system like Excel, text etc.
  • It should be better at helping identify errors.
  • It could be better at extricating data.
  • Frequently requiring updates to JDK.
  • It minimizes time, which translates into cost savings.
  • Helps generate reports for end users more quickly and with less errors.
  • One tool can do what might otherwise require multiple tools.
Apache Derby and MySql Workbench
Developing and testing database queries implemented in reports used by end users. Also well suited for debugging queries, though it could be better at identifying specific errors. It's interface is definitely designed more for developers than end users.
