Overall Satisfaction with SQL Sentry

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using both PA and EM of SQL Sentry. We need to track some historical runs of sql queries on instances. We also need to see if there are any unscheduled outages happening. This tool is very much suited for getting to the root cause of it and trying to avoid the problem from happening again.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Blocking a deadlock issue.
Top SQL to track the historical queries.
Alerts based on events that happened.
SQL server waits.

Cons

Mouse over issue when viewing Performance Advisor.
Reports on deadlock issue.
License cost is higher for one instance.

Alternatives Considered

I was searching for a lot of tools that have more functionality like monitoring the historical queries and other stuff. In face I came to know most of the tools. Monitoring SQL Server, is one is the best.

System Center Operations Manager, Dell Spotlight, Oracle Enterprise Manager

Likelihood to Recommend

SQL Sentry Performance Advisor is well suited for tracking the realtime activities on an instance.

I do want to mention that if you are having issues with reports or the Dashboard, please contact Support (support@sqlsentry.com). There are currently no known wide-covering issues regarding the points you have made, but we would be glad to investigate the issue. I also want to mention that we are working on additional license models such as Core Based and Subscription. While these other options won’t work for everyone, our hope is to provide our customers with options and some flexibility. Thank you for being a valued customer of SQL Sentry!
