Overall Satisfaction with Symantec Backup Exec

Backup Exec is used on some IT applications of our clients. We use it to backup physical servers to NAS, USB HDD and tapes.

Pros

  • Tape backups
  • Client server development

Cons

  • Difficulties with troubleshooting problems
  • Easy to install and configure
  • One purchase for lifetime backups, if you don't plan to upgrade your version
  • A lot of time spent in troubleshooting problems
Sorry but Veeam stacks up against Backup Exec. Backup Exec has a million of options, Veeam is clean and more easy to configure and use. Right now I can't recommend Backup Exec, but I hope in the next years I can come back and say something positive.
We use an old version of backup exec (2010 to 2012), but it was well suited for non virtual environments. It's good to backup on tapes or on any kind of device. You can backup multiple servers.
