To Server or Not to Server, that is the question!

Overall Satisfaction with Tableau Server

We currently use Tableau to support numerous departments across the entire organization. We have plans to deploy the server to other departments over the next few quarters. We use Tableau mainly as a information tool for our teams. We have built several dashboards to display critical information to stakeholders in that particular area. The ease of setup and the ease of maintaining the server allows us to concentrate on our users rather than on the server.
  • Mobile and Browser based access across multiple devices and OS
  • End user ease of use
  • Rapid development and deployment of user new content
  • Extracts can be somewhat difficult to deploy if developing off a local machine with limited resources
  • Advanced skills needed to fully exploit the capabilities of the product
  • Programming syntax issues, no standard based off another language
I've personally have used a vast majority of the Business Intelligence products on the marketplace. I've used all of the Oracle products over the past few years. I've used all of the products in the Microsoft stack, along with Cognos, Qlikview, etc. Each are effective if your use case is very specific in nature. Tableau exceeds these products in my opinion based on the the ease of use and the robustness of the results.
As we look to expand our analytics capabilities we are seeking the best product to meet our needs in this area. Tableau by far meets our needs and expectations in this area. If by chance another product comes to the marketplace that overtakes Tableau then we would have to take a long hard look at our investment. But, at this time we see nothing on the horizon that fits the bill for that criteria.
Tableau Server is a great platform for performing analytics within your company. The off the shelf basic capabilities will allow any individual to produce informative dashboards. I personally believe we are at the beginning of a new age of analytics, not just business intelligence analytics but analytics in general due to this great tool.

Tableau Server Implementation

The Tableau server installation has been flawless. Our user base is increasing rapidly each quarter. On the It front, we tend to upgrade the server on a bi-annual basis. Which allows use to minimize the disruption to our users. Overall, we are completely satisfied with Tableau server.

Tableau Server Reliability

Over the past few years our company has expanded the use of Tableau. We've moved from 250 interactors to well over 1500 server interactions during that timeframe. During the expansion interactors we've yet to expereince any significant degradation of service.
