Overall Satisfaction with Teradata Vantage

Teradata is used throughout the entire company. It is used to store and query a vast amount of data. We store almost all of our membership, claims, revenue, etc. in this application. Many reports utilize this application to easily compile data which can then be used in other applications to properly display and report findings

Pros

  • Stores large amount of data.
  • The syntax used is easy to learn.
  • Makes it easy to import and export your own data.

Cons

  • Sometimes it isn’t clear the reason an error will occur in the query. More detailed responses would be helpful
  • It can be slow at times when pulling large data amounts
  • Sometimes spool space will run out when trying to run certain queries
  • Most important is having a central location for all data to be stored
  • The application is used to query and arrange data
  • Can easily import data since this application can handle large amounts of data that other applications cannot
  • There’s only been positive impacts from my view
  • It is very useful for us to automate reports
  • We are able to meet our deadlines and goals because of the functionality this application provides
To be fair, I didn’t select Teradata. I do think that they are comparable. There are some things SQL server does better than Teradata and vice versa. For example, sql server will underline potential errors while you are coding. It also will auto-populate table and column names so you don’t need to have the exact name before submitting your query.

Yes

Teradata is most suited when needing to get data for a specific purpose. If you need to report data and display it, this application is not as well suited. It should only be used to store and access data. It does a good job of organizing the data. You can get your dataset at a place where little to no additional tweaking would be needed in other applications.
