TIBCO Cloud Spotfire

Overall Satisfaction with Spotfire

Spotfire is being used by every department in my organization, but mainly by our fundraising and operations departments. The software helps us answer important questions about our current donor base and also helps us identify locations and demographics where we could increase our donor base.
  • The location and geospatial analysis tools are excellent and are great at giving a geographical context to our data.
  • If you are familiar with BI tools, Spotfire is easy to set up and start using.
  • There are several options to visualize your data in ways that are compelling and tell a story.
  • We are a smaller organization so we always have to justify the cost (it can be a little pricey for smaller organizations).
  • Not a bad thing necessarily, but the software is so powerful that I feel like my organization is only scratching the surface with its capabilities. We need some guidance and help with the more advanced features.
  • We wish there was more robust documentation available online; it seems to be a bit lacking in certain areas.
  • We have been able to develop more effective marketing campaigns because Spotfire has helped us learn more about donors.
  • Spotfire has helped our operations department identify problem areas in the way our goods and services are being delivered.
  • The software has helped us capture and visualize more data points that we have been able to use for grant funding.
We have integrated Spotfire to the Spotfire Cloud. This integration has been immensely helpful, as it has allowed my organization to access our data and information anywhere in the world and when they are out in the field.
Although I don't have an extensive history with Tableau, from what I understand, Spotfire offers an overall more complete package of data analysis and data visualization. It's the best of both worlds, if you will. Tableau stands out with its data visualization but is behind Spotfire in terms of data analysis capabilities.
For mapping and geospatial analysis, Spotfire is top-notch. While it does not have all of the capabilities of a complete GIS program, it does allow you to create beautiful looking maps from your data without much time or effort. It is easy to share and publish these maps so that we can use them in our reporting, marketing, etc.

Evaluating Spotfire and Competitors

Yes - Before making the switch to Spotfire, my organization was using NetSuite. NetSuite was a legacy software that just wasn't cutting it for our needs and purposes. We thought we could find an alternative that better suited to our budget and could be customized to meet our needs. It was difficult to train newer employees on it and we wanted something that would be easier to use across our organization.
  • Price
  • Product Features
  • Product Usability
The features offered to visualize and analyze various sources of data were the main driver for us making the switch to Spotfire. The ability to customize these features to the needs of our organization also made the decision to switch a no-brainer for us. We specifically found the customizable dashboards to be extremely useful.
If we had to do it all over again, we should have begun evaluating alternatives at earlier date. We waited too long to start the evaluation process even though we were paying for a software program that the entire organization was not consistently using. I also think in a perfect world we would have spent more time evaluating several alternatives, but ultimately, we are confident that we made the right decision because we are very happy with Spotfire.

Spotfire Training

  • No Training
We are a smaller organization so we relied on a few key individuals who have backgrounds in data analysis and software to help train the members of the organization that would be using Spotfire. It would have been helpful to have some more formalized training, but being so busy, it would have been hard to find the time to wrangle in all the various members and departments using the software.
