Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
We recently implemented Veeam Backup and Replication to replace our aging Backup Exec solution. We use it to back up all of our virtual machines, as well as for replicating them to a secondary location. However, backups are worthless if you can't restore from them. Veeam makes this simple with Veeam Explorer, which allows you to do object level recoveries for Exchange, SQL Server, and Active Directory easily.
Pros
- Just works - we use to spend so much time troubleshooting Backup Exec failures, Veeam backups have cut this issue down dramatically.
- Ease of recovery - restoring a database, a mailbox, or an AD account is easy with the use of the Veeam Explorer.
- Designed for virtualization - VMs are first class citizens.
- Ease of use.
Cons
- Physical server support is not as robust as VM support.
- Tape support.
- Allows us to spend less time troubleshooting backup failures, allowing us to focus on more important things for the business.
- Allows us to have multiple copies of critical systems in case of a disaster.
- Allows us to quickly recover deleted data when needed.
Veeam is a much more robust VM backup solution than Backup Exec. There are far fewer failures, and recoveries are much simpler.
