Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

Veeam is being used to backup all production workloads on a schedule to meet our availability and compliance requirements. It is not being used to backup any user endpoints, like laptops.
  • Backups of VMware and Hyper-v were exceedingly easy to set up
  • GFS strategy was very easy to build, maintain and report on
  • Creating offsite backups and proxies for Veeam was also very easy
  • Documentation is not always super clear - often very steeped in its own verbiage without an easy way to find "their definition".
  • When we had problems, they were difficult to solve without support.
  • Very rarely, we had issues where backups would suddenly fail and support's only solution was to recreate the jobs.
  • Veeam was a critical piece of our compliance initiatives - allowing us to have some assurance over data integrity and BC/DR.
  • Being able to restore individual files, emails, and accounts was a life saver on multiple instances where mistakes had been made.
Veeam was much simpler and cheaper for us to implement; however we were a very centralized shop. For larger, more diverse workloads, I think HP's solution is a better fit
It is well suited for heavily virtualized environments with the need for fast backup and recovery scenarios and/or the need for continual jobs. There are also some good use cases around taking VM backups and using them for tests in an isolation that Veeam makes very easy.
