Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

Yes, it's used as the primary backup solution for different technologies: VMWare, Nutanix and Hyper-v. It's very stable and affordable, easy to use and complete in all the necessary features.

Pros

  • Tape backup chained to backup job.
  • Replication job with seeding.

Cons

  • Veeam's availability for Nutanix does not have email alerting.
  • Veeam's availability for Nutanix jobs cannot be chained to tape jobs.
  • Positive: in case of disaster we restored 40 years of data in a couple of days only with a couple of clicks. It was worth all the money spent in the last 10 years.
  • Positive: thanks to the replication, we had the ability to turn on a disaster recovery site after a ransomware attack on the main site with a small RTO.
We use it with all our customers, protecting all virtualization technology (VMWare, Hyper-V, Nutanix).
Hundreds of physical servers, thousand of virtual machines.
We use it with all kinds of 'storage'. More often backups are taken to a NAS and then written to tape for retention needs. Lately, we are using cloud backup as an alternative to tape. It implements all 'connectors' necessary to an SMB or enterprise company.
We used it in many scenarios:
The main is relative to disaster recovery test: periodically we test the disaster recovery site with some critical application.
Another scenario is the sandbox environment, with few clicks we restored 5 servers and tested some new feature in a protected network.
It looks very simple and flexible but it's missing some important features like tape backup.
