Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication

We use Veeam Backup and recovery for daily, weekly, and monthly
standard backups as well as for our ransomware / air gap server back
ups. We snapshot servers before updating them in case of corruption or if the update fails. The snapshots have bailed us out of many a tight spot.We use replication for migrating servers from blade to blade and for the fail over and fail back .
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Enterprise UNIX servers running Solaris & IBM AIX
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • NAS filers
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Integration with cyber-security tools for SecureRestore
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Snapshots are very helpful
  • Server Replication
  • Easy file back up and restoration
  • ransomware recovery
  • It isn't cheap, but when you are good, you do not have to be.
  • Some of the setup was pretty time consuming
  • Some features can be slow. Restorations and roll-backs

We are protecting 85 servers. We have had well over 100 at times, but I think that we knew going in that the number would go down. Now, we are seeing the numbers go back up. Being that we can adjust the resources of servers and set a back-up rotation that suits our needs, we are more prone to stand up servers if we need them.
  • Back up and restore on the fly is very helpful makes us more flexible
  • Snapshots save us a lot of time as well as anxiety. We use snapshots a lot.
We used tapes and bacupexec before Veeam. We had a lot more hardware before Veeam. We are thrilled that we are no longer on tape. We are also pretty happy that the hard disk costs have gone down as well as the development of solid state drives. Veeam handles solid state drives well.
We are not moving to the cloud just yet. Not in any major way.
We have not.
If you are a small company with very limited funds and manpower, you may be able to get away with other products or put the funds towards more hardware, but if youa re a company who wants to invest in fewer salaries and letting technology take over, this is your product. The backup and restoration and snapshots can save you a lot of headaches.
