Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Backup & Replication
This product solved a backup reliability issue for our company. The previous product was decent but prone to backups that would have "issues" and failures fairly often. This was increasingly frustrating and led to our shopping for something new. As we already use Veeam for backing up Microsoft 365, it made sense to evaluate and ultimately purchase the product.
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- Enterprise applications such as Oracle or SAP HANA
- In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- Reliable backups and restores
- Very fast speed
- File server backups don't replicate to the cloud without workarounds

We have a total of 15 devices (physical and virtual) being backed up. When we started it was 10, so in the course of a year it has grown quite a bit. I recently had to add storage to my nearline backup server to handle the new servers we keep adding.
- Fast restores save time when urgent
- No issues means no lost data
- Automatic redundant backups local and to cloud for reliability and redundancy
We had far too many errors one month with our current backup solution. Veeam Backup & Replication came highly recommended and after trialing it I was not disappointed. There is a bit of a learning curve to the software but once figured out, it is quite powerful and flexible. And did I mention reliable?
The fact that our backups automatically back up at high speed locally and then are spooled to the cloud, means that we benefit from restores that happen very quickly locally, and still have the redundancy and ransomware protection that happens when we use cloud storage with immutability. Definitely helps me sleep at night.
The NAS/file share solution is very good. The only issue I have with it is that it doesn't automatically use the scale out repo for redundant file server backups. So I have to instead image my file server drive to get it redundant. Hopefully a fix will come in a future version of Veeam Backup & Replication.
