Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

I use it as backup and recovery application. We have also used it as a tool to replicate any additional drives being added to the actual server as a testing mechanism. As an accounting firm, we are a potential target for ransomware attacks and Veeam ensures us a reliable backup.
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Accessing data for data mining or re-use of backup copies via API
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
  • Quick backups
  • Accurate recovery
  • Speedy recovery
  • Virtual data testing
  • Speed of image taking could use improvement.
  • The amount of stress put onto the server when taking snapshots is noticeable at times.
  • Enabling the creation of multiple snapshots at one time.

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

There is one physical server, with many applications installed on, along with at least a dozen of could-based applications.
Since the product was acquired, we have added a long list of applications which all have sorted and stored set of sensitive data of their own and Veeam has been performing just as good as it did when server load was a lot less.
  • We have saved thousands of potential data loss by being protected via Veeam backups that we created frequently and protect.
  • We have also saved an average of $2000 a year on lower cyber insurance after showing how Veeam allows us to keep our data secure.
  • Veeam allows 'fast backing' and 'Slow backing'. This allows for daily backups which take less time and a weekly major backup of the entire server which has been a wonderful tool.
2 major events prompted our transition to Veeam. A less than competent previous IT director left the company suddenly and we realized how valuable an accurate backup of our server could be to roll back to.
Also, a peer company was a victim of a ransomware which not only forced them to pay the ransom, but their cyber insurance tripled because of it. We feel safe against these attacks since we keep nightly backups to roll back to without the need to pay any ransom to anyone.
Since we have chosen to be on-prem with our server, we rarely use or utilize any cloud-based services.
This will however change in near future since it seems to be an inevitable trend.
All drives holding data are in a RAID array in our server so currently we do not use NAS or any other file-share solutions. I am very interested to know what capabilities are offered by Veeam when it comes to NAS and File-share. I'd appreciate being pointed to the direction of some material or literature regarding this.
Very well application for backup and recovery. It has allowed us on multiple occasions to roll back to previous backups smoothly. We have had situation where a certain important data was purged by mistake. Veeam's backup copy allowed us to retrieve the lost data. Making frequent and organized backups of our server has allowed us to feel comfortable against any potential threats with a recovery of only one day of data loss.
