Veeam Backup & Replication

Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We use Veeam Data Platform to automate our server backups and replication. It allows us to set all of this up, including failover plans, and we don't have to touch it again unless a server needs to failover to our DR site, or we need to restore it from a backup.
  • Virtualized workloads
  • In addition to back up, we also replicate some of these workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Utilizing backup copies for secondary purposes via DataLabs
  • Automating test restores to validate recoverability
  • Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
  • Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
  • Server backups
  • Server replication
  • Built in failover plans
  • The user interface
  • Quicker support on issue tickets
  • More detailed error codes for some of the generic errors

Yes

Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

We currently have around 70 servers being protected through Veeam Data Platform. This is probably more than anticipated when they had first implemented Veeam Data Platform, but it can more than handle the workload. The company was smaller when they first decided to utilize Veeam Data Platform as our backup and replication solution, and have grown since then.
  • It give us peace of mind to know that our data is backed up and ready to be restored.
  • It allows us to utilize this to reduce cyber insurance premiums.
  • It saves time and money in the event of our infrastructure failing by speeding up the recovery process.
I was not involved with the company prior to them utilizing the Veeam Data Platform. We have since had multiple instances of servers crashing or data needing to be restored and Veeam Data Platform was able to handle the tasks fairly quickly. If this was not in place it would have taken a lot longer, or been impossible without another solution in place.
We currently have our normal backups taken through the Veeam Data Platform. Those then copy into a cloud backup solution that is integrated into Veeam Data Recovery. It then also replicates all of the servers over to a third party Disaster Recovery solution as well. This insures that we are covered in disaster related event.
We do not utilize this portion of the Veeam Data Platform. We have a file share server that is backed up with application aware processing allowing us to restore the entire server, or individual files, when needed. We also have a physical NAS that houses copies of backups from Veeam Data Platform.
When needing to back up, and/or, replicate many servers it is well suited. It also allows you to connect many different VM host infrastructures, cloud infrastructures, etc.

It would probably be overkill for companies that don't have the need for a large amount of servers to be backed up, replicated, etc.
