Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We use Veeam Data Platform for backup of our vital systems on a large number of servers to storage arrays. These servers, a mix of different operating systems, both bare metal and virtualised, located across the state and Veeam Data Platform allows us to easily manage them all centrally, backing up and restoring vital systems easily.
Pros
- Backup and restore of a server is very easy and quick
- The ability to backup an entire hypervisor with multiple VMs simplifies backup
- Management and reporting of multiple sites from a central location allows for quick response and remediation
Cons
- Veeam Data Platform installations / updates are often large files which is an issue for remote sites with slow connections
- As far as know there is no Veeam Data Platform mobile app
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Automating test restores to validate recoverability
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
I'm unsure of the exact number as I only manage a subset of the entire fleet and are only able to see the sites I manage. We are a very large organisation with hundreds of sites, most with a Veeam instance on site backing up virtual and physical workloads to store arrays on site. This number of continues to grow.
- Reduced the down time of services
- Reduced the need for technicians to travel to remote sites to restore servers
- Provided management with comprehensive reporting
The need to manage many remote sites, reduce the cost and time of remediating a data loss situation. Previously we had onsite tape backups performed which required manual interaction with the swapping of tapes, storage and manual verification of backups. Tape backups were also very cumbersome particularly when it came to restoring data. Veeam Data Platform has simplified and improved the whole process.
For my team we currently do not use cloud backups, however are aware of the feature and some others outside of our team are utilising it. I cannot speak of that feature as I have not used it as local backups have been sufficient, particularly with connection speeds, it is far better for the remote sites we manage to backup and restore locally.
Yes, our users are constantly creating media files and creating folders on file shares along with downloading large media files, storing them in unstructured file shares. All of our sites have mixed storage and use NAS and SAS along with personal shares.
