Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We use Veeam to backup multiple on-premise VMs to a local Veeam storage box and push those VMs to a cloud backup provider. We currently do multiple sets of backups once a day.
Pros
- Daily Backups.
- Support for numerous Virtualizers.
Cons
- Nothing we have seen so far.
- Virtualized workloads
- Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- License portability as your environment needs change
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
We have 5 Virtual VMs currently being protected by Veeam Data Platform. This is more than we were anticipating backing up originally as we were planning on reducing our virtual server load on premise and moving more to cloud.
- We have saved over $5000 after moving off barracuda.
- We are able to use any cloud storage backup provider saving money as well.
We were spending almost 5x more on Barracuda per year than Veaam Data Platform charges us, and we now have more control over backup frequencies and can use third-party cloud backup providers.
We are currently backing up all of our Virtual on-premise servers to Backblaze on top of backing up to the local Veaam instance.
We do not currently have NAS/file shares backed up.
It performs marginally better, but at a much much lower cost than Barracuda Backup.
