Veeam Backup & Replication
Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
We've been using Veeam Data Platform at our company, and it's been a game-changer. When hardware fails, Veeam Data Platform gets us back up and running fast with bare metal restores. We also use bare metal recoveries to do system cloning which is perfect for testing and scaling. If our virtual machines have issues, Veeam Data Platform helps us restore them quickly. Plus, our important databases are safe and secure with Veeam Data Platform's efficient backups., Also love the synthetic full backups!
Pros
- Starting up a VM from a backup in a disaster recovery scenario
- Restoring clients over the network with tricky drive mapping
- Bare metal recovery USBs
Cons
- Some of the Network setup can be tricky when in a bare metal recovery scenario, trying to get to the network storage locations
- have had situations where drivers become issues when booting up servers that were recovered but seems to work in v12 now
- Virtualized workloads
- Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
- In addition to back up, we also snapshot some of these workloads
- NAS filers
- Application-centric recovery using Veeam Explorers (for Exchange, SQL, Sharepoint, etc)
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
- Immutable storage to protect against ransomware
- “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
- Failover or recovery scripts/plans for orchestrated recovery
- Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
perhaps around 60, i think weve consolidated things since we started due to using more kiosk RDP setups
- Veeam Data Platform has been great at saving us from user related data loss.
- Hopefully we never need any recovery ransomware but it would certainly save us if we did
we wanted more advanced features and centralized backup and restore when we started moving to using more VMs. We like the integration more than when we used Unitrends
we have brought up systems as VMs in the cloud just as disaster recovery tests. They successfully ran
we backup our NAS and file shares with Veeam Data Platform to azure and offsite NAS (which we copy to a few places using Veeam Data Platform)
From what i recall Veeam Data Platform is far more feature rich with VM backups than either Unitrends or veritas
