Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform
Today, Veeam Data Platform is used to backup all our VMs and some standalone physical servers. We rely on this solution with almost every team: engineers, administrators etc.
We use mainly: VM backup & restore, Mail and file share backup and restoration.
Another tool which is used: Sure Backup.
From my point of view, it's a reliable solution to backup and maintain all of our infrastructure in good shape.

We have about 400 VMs to backup and a dozen of physical machines in the first datacenter. On the second hand, we have another datacenter which contains about 150 VMs which are backuped with Veeam Data Platform. It's more than anticipated since we reacquired those assets with a joint between two companies. Since the second company already used Veeam Data Platform, it was not hard to integrate these machines.
- It's hard to calculate the exact ROI but the data operations are faster (backup/restore) and may use less administration manpower
- Veeam Data Platform is commonly used everywhere, we save money from not explaining how it works to our new administrators
When I arrived in the company, Veeam Data Platform was already used, so it's not a point for me. If I had to talk about my actual change, I used in a previous life some tools from Netbackup to TSM and Symantec. The move to the virtualization showed me that a lot of them were inappropriate. A recently hired engineer was fond of the Veeam Data Platform solution and made a presentation for me a couple of years ago (maybe 10 years ?). I was impressed by the ease of use and the reliability of Veeam Data Platform compared to others.
We don't use cloud protection yet since our security team is very conservative about this use. I think this usage will be analysed in a few months or maybe years. We want to be and stay very aware of where our data is. I'm sure that cloud applied for disaster recovery will be an interesting option in the future.
The NAS and file share backup wasn't used before we reacquired the second company. We exclusively relied on SAN backup. Since some assets in the company were network attached storages (Huawei), we discovered that Veeam was a brilliant tool for such a backup. The performances are obviously slower but it works well with the huge amount of data which is stored. The integrated backup tools provided before did the job but needed to be explained which cost us time. Veeam Data Platform is well made and user friendly and we don't need to switch between different software.
