Overall Satisfaction with Veeam Data Platform

We have two on-premise datacenters with an array of different storage types and a wide array of different business needs. Our data comes from a variety of sources and is governed by various different business requirements and legislative aspects given its nature, with some sensitive data including GDPR and medical data. We have seen similar organisations compromised by cyber attacks and this underlines the importance to us of an effective data protection solution.

Pros

  • Simplifies data protection
  • Reduces operational overheads
  • Removes the need to explore multiple vendor solutions

Cons

  • Lower costs
  • Virtualized workloads
  • Endpoints and physical servers running Windows & Linux
  • Cloud-hosted VMs within AWS or Azure
  • “Instant” recovery or portability between platforms (physical > virtual > cloud-hosted)
  • Capacity Tier to store data within object storage for longer term retention
Our adoption is currently relatively limited due to the organisational split between on-premise and cloud teams. As the initial adoption was performed by the on-premise team, we have not been able to realise the full potential of the Veeam Data Platform and this is something we aim to explore in future.
  • It has lowered the operational overheads for our infrastructure teams
Our backup solution was reviewed as the previous solution reached its end of life and we explored the market to review alternative options on offer. There was no massive triggering action for us, this was just a business as usual change taken in line with our usual business review processes.
We have yet to fully adopt Veeam Data Platform fully as I have previously detailed, so we will be looking at whether we can leverage it for protection of our cloud workloads going forward in the future. Disaster recovery is becoming an increasing concern for us and it is likely to drive such decisions.
File share backup is currently our main use for Veeam as we have a large on-premise estate with a wide array of different file shares and other unstructured data stored in a number of mediums and with different governance around it, covering aspects such as GDPR and medical data which must be considered even in backups.
We felt that Veeam provided the most platform agnostic solution for us which was an important factor as we are moving workloads to cloud over time, while still retaining some presence on-premise, but also have more unusual workloads that Veeam uniquely provides for like Google Workplace in a single wrapper.

Do you think Veeam Data Platform delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Veeam Data Platform's feature set?

Yes

Did Veeam Data Platform live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Veeam Data Platform go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Veeam Data Platform again?

Yes

Veeam Data Platform is well suited where you are able to bring in a single solution to uniformly use across the board for your data protection needs. The most benefit is realised from adopting it across all elements of the business (cloud, on-premise, hybrid) and embracing the approaches it promotes.
