Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Vertex is used for both sales and purchase transactions in most of the countries we are doing tax returns. We are also using it for U.S. sales and use tax and for VAT in EU countries. We are using Vertex O for tax calculation it communicates Oracle and calculates tax on invoices and also exports data from there. Also using VVC and VITR for the preparation of the sales listings and tax returns.

Vertex Tax Accuracy

I think Vertex handles it right. I didn't have any specific examples of scenarios or I do not remember any.

Scalability

At our company I was not part of the Vertex implementations, but we are multinational company with sites in many countries accross the world. Vertex is used for US, EU and Asia too at our company. It was implemented in a lot of countries by my colleagues and as I know we were one of the firsts using VVC.

Usability

This is true, there's less manual work with Vertex. First of all we can set up tax exemptions in Vertex O, so if someone has blanket one, it is easier to set up account exemption and then the system knows the customer is exempt. Than exporting all the transactions from Vertex O and comparing those to our GL is easier. Importing the data to VVC or VITR and then having the tax returns is also good.

Alternatives Considered

I have not used any other products before Vertex as I have started in this role after the Vertex implementations were done.

Likelihood to Recommend

I think the tax calculation is very good because of the automated maintenance of the tax rates. The Vertex export and import to VITR/VVC is also good, but for the U.S. we are using VITR which is better for me than VVC. Easier to generate EDI files for trasmitting data or only uploading those to the companies web page rather than manual data import.
