Overall Satisfaction with Windows Server
Windows Server is the primary server operating system at our corporation. It is used for file servers, print servers, mail servers, web servers, and application servers. There are currently various versions deployed with a current movement to standardize on Windows Server 2019 Standard. Over 95% of our current installed server base is virtualized and running on VMware's hypervisor product.
- Windows Server is a very stable platform.
- Windows Server is extremely versatile and can be used for a variety of roles.
- Windows Server is easy to administer and install.
- Windows Server still has room to improve on security.
- Windows Server has some elements in the UI that do not work properly.
- Windows Server requires constant patching to remain secure.

- Windows Server has been hardened enough to avoid manner security issues when properly patched. This prevents spend on incident response and remediation.
- The costs of continuing to use Windows as opposed to some "free" alternatives are less when training is factored in.
- Software the runs on Windows Server is typically less than software running on platforms such as IBM i or Power Systems.
- Ubuntu Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and CentOS Linux
We have various servers or appliances that run on various flavors of Linux that do their jobs well, but we configure and manage them very lightly at the OS level. Most of the admin on these devices is sone inside the applications themselves. We don't shy away from new technology,but will use Windows due to our extensive experience when possible.
