It [SolarWinds Access Rights Manager (ARM)] is well suited for small to medium sized companies who want to enhance and ease up their daily work. As well as it is suited for organized structures, it has its problems with very complex environments. For example, if you are working with direct and multiple permissions instead of having more granular group based permissions.

Really like [this] solution, it fits our requirements 100%. There are unlimited possibilities to extend the product, either by creating additional adapters or selectors. We really like the policy management level in PingFederate. It's extremely helpful when we can specify customer journey per many different requirements like user location, application type etc. As well, both StepUp and TopDown authentication flows were implemented [easily].

Pros
SolarWinds
  • SolarWinds Access Rights Manager is easy to set up and configure. We had the first report generated in a few hours.
  • The automated feature for the reports is great. We just set it and forget it and now the reports get emailed on schedule.

  • Based on open standards, we can use as much or as little of the Ping suite as we like, depending on which other technologies we've already implemented.
  • Continuous innovation and product enhancements have ensured their products continue to meet our rapidly evolving needs.
  • Ping Identity has been an outstanding partner, starting with the RFP process and continuing to this day, years after the sale. They are focused on our success at every level of the company and are highly responsive to our needs, issues, and product suggestions.

Cons
SolarWinds
  • Licensing model when we changed over to SolarWinds was [I feel] a nightmare. It needs to be more streamlined and SolarWinds needs to understand what their customers require. When we changed over to SolarWinds we found it very hard to get answers to what modules we were still licensed for.
  • Our current system is not functioning. We can't login to the application with the accounts we created that were working. The error that appears doesn't help to resolve it. So at present we just renewed licenses for this year and we can't use the system.

  • Solutions are attractive to engineers but harder to sell to upper management.
  • Support was initially a challenge but has improved immensely.

Usability
SolarWinds
SolarWinds ARM improved the data access for the organization and it saved time and money by providing accurate data for access rights when it expired to avoid unauthrized access. The solution helped the staff to grant access to users and manage them propely by using the great and friendly interface

As I mentioned earlier, efficiency and security are this software's bread and butter. The usability is very simple and straightforward, very user-friendly. As a result, it is efficient in a way that we can provide faster quality service to our merchants, and security in a way that our credentials will never leak since PingOne always values Personal Identifiable Information.

Very slow response times and sometimes I found the solution and ended up sharing it with support

Ping's support is willing and attentive, but if I am in a position to engage them I am often at a point where most of the usual support engineers would not be in a position to answer the questions I have. However, Ping has been more than willing to engage their product and development teams with our organization as we take advanced deployment and use case challenges to them.

It was my first exposure to this type of product and I wasn’t given the time to figure out how best to implement it. I would say get a plan together of what you are tying to accomplish first

I found the installation and configuration to be much easier and more straightforward. What also assisted in the decision to go with Access Rights Manager, was the fact we already made use of Solarwinds products. Knowing from previous experiences with their support staff, meant we knew how great their after-hours support was whenever we had any technical issues with the platform. We felt it would be better to keep it all under one roof so to speak

This solution is selected before my time so, not much influence ,but product allow to customized and require decent ping skills to configure the solution. Okta and Other solutions are well suited in this category with some positive and some negative capabilities. it must say that Auth0 is the best option with Azure Identity to move ahead.
