Adobe Premiere Pro

The great thing about Premiere Pro is that it's easy to use if you're a beginner or if you're a pro. The process of using the program is simple and laid out in a way that helps you stay in your mental creative process without having to overthink what you're trying to do and where to find settings, etc. If you're relying on your GPU to do the brunt of the processing work then you're pretty much out of luck since Premiere is CPU intensive and there are currently no signs of that changing any time soon. Many folks switch to other editing software for this reason but as mentioned earlier, if you have a powerful CPU then you'll be okay. I have the 7960X 16 core, 32 thread and I can playback 4K pretty well.

Filmora

Filmora is great for a beginner and is easy to use. I found the interface very intuitive and was exporting my first video in about 30 minutes. I would recommend this to people who are new to video editing and don't need the capabilities and features of a professional package such as Adobe Premier. Although Wondershare has recently released a Filmora Pro version I have not tried it yet.

Pros

Adobe Premiere Pro

  • Very flexible.
  • Great tool set for editing, manipulating, color correcting and even audio adjustments.
  • Fairly easy to use. Lots of learning online. Just Google what you want to do and someone likely has a video showing you!
  • Sometimes I feel like I am only touching the surface of Premiere Pro's capabilities. I learn something new practically every day.

Cons

Adobe Premiere Pro

  • Premiere's audio editing feature is very bare-bones, and not very intuitive. It's likely trying to get you to use audition, but that can be really annoying when all you want to do is fix a simple hiss.
  • Inability to place effects on the entire specific tracks (ie. on V2) rather than over-top tracks.
  • The audio synchronization feature could be updated to be faster and more intuitive, but overall it's a handy feature
  • Bringing the encoding/exporting function up to par with Adobe Media Encoder would be a good update to see.

Filmora

  • Only 2 Video Tracks
  • Cannot Select and Produce or Export Only Parts of the Timeline
  • Lacking some shortcuts to help navigate and maneuver timeline more efficiently

Everything I have tried to do was easy to figure out. The export and online store where you get additional titles, etc. have very minor issues, correct those and it's a solid 10.

I've not used their support so I can't really comment on their support. I typically don't call support when I have a problem, but rather go to the Internet and YouTube to figure out what I'm trying to accomplish. I'm sure that since this is a supported product and they charge monthly for its use that they'd support someone when they have problems. I just don't have firsthand knowledge of it.

Alternatives Considered

Adobe Premiere Pro

I didn't see it listed in the dropdown, but I've also used the stripped down Adobe program, Adobe Premiere Rush, which is also excellent, although you probably need to use it in conjunction with Premiere Pro for unfettered use. Although my introduction to the video production world with through Avid (Media Composer) in college, I have used Premiere Pro in two media-related positions which leads me to believe that either the Adobe products are arguably top of the line, or that Avid is way more expensive. If you're thinking about getting into video production, I think you cannot go wrong if you happen to choose Premiere Pro. It's not lacking in a way I can think of, and any beginner-related confusion is mitigated if you can pair it with Premiere Rush.

Filmora

Filmora is a good video editor with many of the capabilities of Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. However, it was the more user-friendly of the three to people who have no experience in video editing. I cannot speak to what a professional video editor would say, but as someone who wants a good, professional video but does not want to invest lots of time into getting a professional video, Filmora was the best that we tried.

Return on Investment

Adobe Premiere Pro

  • Premiere Pro has helped us create more engaging content for our social platforms and YouTube channel, increasing user engagement, likes, and shares.
  • Having this platform also has saved us money on hiring agencies, as we can produce our own small promos and videos without having to hire them out and waiting long lead times.
