Altru

Altru shines in capturing constituent data. If you are looking for a product to collect user info and their use patterns then this database works. The challenge is getting the data out in a format usable for decision making and application. Reporting can be a bear. The preloaded key performance indicators and reports are useful but may not fit your need. Every institution is different, and every department has different needs. This product tries to bridge the gaps to create communication between areas, but at a cost. This will not serve any of the departments at 100% of what is wanted out of a database. Altru is a whole institution choice for the benefit of cross-department collaboration.

Ellucian CRM Advance

Ellucian Advance is a wonderful system for managing the incoming data of applicants. It allows for a complete record to be available at one's fingertips, and provides a strong display of details needed to produce a complete review and recommendation. The data is grouped together logically and is easy to access.

Pros

  • The system is very intuitive and easy to learn, especially the sales functions.
  • The support resources are fantastic. From finding the answer by yourself on the knowledge base, to talking to chat support, to after hours support - I have had very good experience working with their support team.
  • Being able to have all of the departments across our organization put all of their information on one platform is an amazing improvement to what we had before Altru.
  • Since it is internet based, you can access it from anywhere - which is great when I am not in the office and need to fix something. I just jump on it on my phone!

  • The system has helped to streamline business processes by identifying the key information needed in each phase of a record.
  • We have seen a decrease in processing time for an individual record as the automated system allows all parties to have access to the same information simultaneously.
  • By being able to access all pertinent information, the system has helped to make the recruiting process easier and more efficient for all users.

Cons

  • Query system not user-friendly for management with limited database background.
  • Limited company-to-user support outside of an online community of users. No long term account managers for program.
  • No email analysis tools for eblasts.
  • Limited merchandise capabiity for shop use, though the program does allow third party programs to work with it.

  • Some of the data is not in the most intuitive location.
  • The initial learning curve of the system was a bit steep, but after working with the system exclusively, our users got proficient very quickly.

Alternatives Considered

Having used multiple databases to collect data from visitors across all of our points of contact, we found we had information, but no comparison between areas. It was possible to have a volunteer who made a donation, bought a membership, made purchases in the shop, and attended a workshop, but only visited the galleries 1x a year. The result was to have power users without knowing it. While each of the products we had used were fine in their own right, they lacked the ability to tell us what we most needed to know - how often we were used across all of our points of service. Altru gave us that.

Ellucian Advance allows for the logical grouping of data and a very easy way to display it. The pre-set forms are arranged in a way that makes it simple to pull and review data as needed without having to recreate data tables or reformat information.

Return on Investment

  • It has increased our online ticket sales for programs exponentially. Before Altru our online ticket selling platform for programs was clunky & confusing for customers. Now it is easy to navigate & very customer friendly.

  • We are now able to do a more effective review of applicants and see overall trends of characteristics such as source locations. This helps to focus other efforts such as marketing to support those areas and increase others.
  • There is now a full picture of the needs of our students. By being able to view information in a logical progression, trend data can be identified and reacted to.
