Armor

For managed security hosting, Armor can hardly be beat. Expensive but worth it.

Microsoft Azure

Azure, and specifically the ML-related products, are great for startups that are looking to move tasks requiring greater processing-power off of on-premise machines. Azure has some great products, and if one of the use-cases greatly benefits your company's backend infrastructure optimization, then it's definitely a must-have. Otherwise, it is worth looking at other cheaper, more general cloud computing services, like Google Compute Engine and DigitalOcean.

Pros

  • Security - we have requirements met right out of the box and the implementation of new resources is done with security in mind.
  • Speed - We can scale resources easy and the infrastructure is fast and efficient.
  • Responsiveness - Support tickets are handled very fast with almost immediate solutions.

  • Active Directory integration. Azure allows for solutions outside your environment to pull your AD information in a non-intrusive fashion to help you automate certain functions such as single sign-on.
  • Great for deploying new applications without having to stand a server or develop a system in-house.
  • Cloud computing at its best. So many features available to accommodate your networking needs with great security and resilience.

Cons

  • More scalable cloud type services.

  • Cloud based technologies always have some type of risk associated. Microsoft has addressed the lack stability of frameworks, libraries, etc.
  • There is no local stored data available for easy access. No offline access to the system in case of a major system outage.

Moving to Azure was and still is an organizational strategy and not simply changing vendors. Our product roadmap revolved around Azure as we are in the business of humanitarian relief and Azure and Microsoft play an important part in quickly and efficiently serving all of the world. Migration and investment in Azure should be considered as an overall strategy of an organization and communicated companywide.

As a VP i'm not your typical technical person and I'm able to easily use Azure in technical matters so I believe 9 is correct rating.

You don't always get a technician immediately that really understands the issue that needs to be handled but escalations are usually available and prompt. Nobody's perfect, but I'd say Armor is pretty solid for the most part.

The only reason I didn't give it a 10 rating as support is expensive.

As I have mentioned before the issue with my Oracle Mismatch Version issues that have put a delay on moving one of my platforms will justify my 7 rating.

We have been one of Microsoft's Azure beta users from the beginning and we worked closely with Microsoft in migration effort. We have used several cloud applications before including Rackspace. Azure's large footprint was the key for us as our applications are SaaS and used worldwide. The ability for me to quickly and easily move servers from West US, to Asia, West Europe, etc.. was very important.
