Atlassian Crowd vs. Centrify / Idaptive (discontinued, superseded by Idira Identity Platform)

For companies that are already using other Atlassian systems, then Atlassian Crowd will fit in very well. This is especially the case if the company is not yet big enough to use LDAP for user management, Atlassian Crowd can act as a temporary solution until the company outgrows it, as it is much easier and simpler than LDAP.

Centrify is a great solution for anyone looking to start using Office 365. It is also a great solution for anyone wanting to provide their users with an SSO solution using OAUTH, Federation, or SAML for any hosted service. If you are looking to use Centrify for MDM but you aren't using a hosted/hybrid email solution such as Office 365, there are better on-premise options that should be explored.

• It is very easy for users to create tickets
• Standing up atlassian crowd is a breeze
• Not having to manage any hardware infrastructure is great

• User provisioning is accurate, effective, and fully customizable.
• Custom configuration of applications for SSO and provisioning is easy using fully customizable scripts to address your exact need.
• The user interface is clean and easy to navigate.
• Support is helpful and prompt.

• Some systems that are not crucial turned into more work than what was originally deemed necessary to successfully deploy Crowd.
• Linux support was there as it was built mostly to support Windows based systems
• Documentation was supported but most issues we had required us to contact Atlassian support.

• Occasionally, I get logged out of Gmail, sometimes in the middle of an email. I'm not sure why it happens, but I think it has something to do with timing out. Which is strange because I'm on email all day. Not sure why.

Centrify is central to creating efficiency and safety for our clients and internally. To remove it would cause a massive disturbance in the lives of our employees and our clients.

Overall, support is good, you get quick responses from Atlassian's official support system, and documentation is decent enough for you to find what you need.

The support staff thus far has been very helpful. At times I feel they are driving the process forward without my intervention or constant reminder, which is nice to have in a company for a change. Most support seems to be a hassle but so far Centrify appears to treat your project as their own project.

These products allow you to install them on your own infrastructure, so you can manage all aspects of them which can prevent you from getting throttled from API calls. When you hit a certain threshold of scale you may need to switch off of Atlassian Cloud to your own hardware. When you are a small startup, however, this product is probably a good starting point.

Centrify offered us more for our money by being more than just an SSO platform. There were several other features included such as MDM and MFA. This started other initiatives for us and felt the other solutions we evaluated would not have been able to provide.

• New systems are tough when it comes to an ROI, as a dollar amount for saving time on a sign-in can be tough to track. Like most new systems that makes things slightly easier to execute as an end user or manage or support, it really might come down to the existing structure of how a company manages its users.
• The positives are always with the end user, which I have to say, Crowd was able to accomplish.

• Centrify has made the job of the administrator easier by allowing us to manage SSO and MDM all in one.
• Centrify has made it easy for the end user by using SSO and not having to remember their passwords for multiple applications, networks, etc.
• Centrify has made it easy for an end user to enroll their own device which in return adds their device to the corporate network and sets up corporate email on their device.
