IBM Security QRadar SIEM
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
QRadar and Splunk are comparable SIEMs. It just all depends on the nature of your environment and preference.
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
Both solutions are similar in functionality and reputation; however, our team was able to get a better combination of security tools from IBM that would have provided us with end-to-end capabilities for our security requirements. Additionally, our existing team already had …
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
We chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM not only because it was a leader but because it convinced us it was a solid product suitable for multiple scenarios but most importantly we needed a really secure and powerful software for our infrastructure.
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
I would always recommend Splunk over IBM Security QRadar SIEM unless you're trying to save money or only onboarding and normalizing well known data sources. IBM Security QRadar SIEM doesn't seem to handle RBA and complicated, chaining correlation rules very effectively and if I …

Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
It's in the middle of this chart, Splunk from my point of view it's still the best SIEM actually and Sentinel it's very easy to use.
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
IBM Qradar is cheaper and also easy to use.
For splunk you need dedicated team of experts.
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
As a part of core security service provider, we could not stand with the tools that are used as a generic data processor. The compliance, log reading and events are well managed in QRadar compared to other tools
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
Much less manual work and easier integration.
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
More User-friendly in creating use cases. Managing offenses. Identifying issues more easily. Everything is accessible in fingertip.
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
We chose QRadar based on its flexibility and open platform for integrations. Compared to the other tools that we review QRadar just had the most of the features that we felt were relevant.
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
IBM is more user-friendly if we compare it with ELK stack and ArcSight. Much reliable, and have better Support. Onboarding data, creating correlation searches, and easier to integrate with 3rd party solutions as well. LogOps projects and less time-consuming products. Qradar …
Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
Very close competition but IBM QRadar stands out; other IBM products support the cybersecurity monitoring and IR function.

Chose IBM Security QRadar SIEM
With IBM supplying this solution, you're inherently getting the globally recognized IBM support environment as well. As an enterprise solution, Qradar is among stiff competition but the reliability and availability make it a cut above the rest. While I also recommend …
Splunk Enterprise
Chose Splunk Enterprise
Able to show more than Log data in Splunk views, we tested several plug-ins during a small pilot, and we were able to bring O/S (Win/Unix/Linux) & APM data metrics into the same views as Logged data. I've seen others use it to visualize a wider range of data types, too...better …
Chose Splunk Enterprise
We had an old version of QRadar before Splunk. It was difficult to customize and difficult to pull in our data sources. It wound up being neglected and not providing value for us as an institution. We have also looked into other things like AlienVault but in general, the …
Chose Splunk Enterprise
More features and easy to manage once configured and setup correctly. Stronger correlation engine compared to other products. Easily integrates with ServiceNow for ticket creation, automation, and building workflows. Helps in AiOPS more, as compared to other tools. Provides …
Chose Splunk Enterprise
Splunk is certainly much more versatile than either of these three products. Unless ArcSight makes a "connector" for your product, you will be required to use Flex Connectors which is an additional license and apparently requires some serious development. Without Logger, you …

D3 Security
D3 is clearly tailoring their approach to large organizations with a significant geographical footprint who are largely in need of a tool that provides robust analytics and activity graphing to analyze productivity and supervisory efficiency at the executive level. However, small to medium-sized organizations and those with narrow geographical footprints may find the investment vastly more expensive than the return. The implementation of minimum purchasing guidelines means that smaller departments will be forced into purchasing tools they have little to no use for, and medium-size departments will be paying a high price for features they do find helpful but could get elsewhere for a substantially lower price. Additionally, small to medium-sized users may find that D3's focus on large organizational level tools is less helpful than some smaller competitor's software which provides a number of capabilities with more operational relevance for environments like office buildings, college campuses, university police departments, and housing associations. Overall, I would recommend D3 to large organizations who have need of the advanced tools included in their more expensive modules. The lack of some smaller levels of customization, 1st line operational features, and the high-end user interface is less important at that level of implementation.

IBM
I would only recommend IBM Security QRadar SIEM in a few situations. For one, it's very easy to setup and use if all your log sources are generic from known vendors. It's also significantly cheaper than Splunk, which is nice if you're trying to save money or be more efficient. I would not recommend IBM Security QRadar SIEM for environments with a lot of custom logs and complicated detection requirements.

It's well suited for what I do, which is network security operations. And that's for anything from troubleshooting incidents, troubleshooting performance, troubleshooting for the purpose of a compliance and auditing. It's not best suited for users who are new in terms of they're new to the product and they have expectations that probably Splunk cannot meet.

  • It is very useful in creating custom rules for analyzing system logs and display relevant information. The query language is very easy to learn.
  • We can create custom UI to visualize the output of our data. The interface is very flexible. It also allows the sharing of rules among users.
  • There is an open online community to help others. Stackoverflow also has a splunk community. These resources make it more convenient to learn.

Cons

  • Need to spend more time configuring the system to properly interpret and normalize different type of data collected from multiple resources.
  • While Rule creation QRadar uses that rules to detect security threats and generate alerts, but to creating and managing rules is bit complex & tedious work to complete.
  • IBM Security QRadar SIEM is excellent in handling large & complex systems that requires in-depth knowledge and extensive training to configure and maintain the system which includes upgrading, optimization of performance & issue troubleshooting.

  • Splunk light limits number of users to 5. Wish there was a flexible license, where one could add more users.
  • Splunk light does not let you add > few realtime alerts. Wish there was a flexible license, where one could add as many realtime alerts as wanted.
  • Better insight into daily ingestion values

QRadar is an established and stable product, we have been using it for many years and want to continue to focus on it. We are using Splunk extensively in our projects and we have recently upgraded to Splunk version 6.0 which is quite efficient and giving expected results. We keep track of updates and new features Splunk introduces periodically and try to introduce those features in our day to day activities for improvement in our reporting system and other tasks.

As a grade I give 8 as QRadar is not easy to learn. It requires some time to master it. It also needs a team of people actively working on the product. Once you learn to use it the software works very well and it is easy to correlate and understand detected threats. It only takes time to learn how to use it well and configure it properly.

You can literally throw in a single word into Splunk and it will pull back all instances of that word across all of your logs for the time span you select (provided you have permission to see that data). We have several users who have taken a few of the free courses from Splunk that are able to pull data out of it everyday with little help at all.

Splunk maintains a well resourced support system that has been consistent since we purchased the product. They help out in a timely manner and provide expert level information as needed. We typically open cases online and communicate when possible via e-mail and are able to resolve most issues with that method.

The online course was simple clear and described the main capabilities of the solution. There is also an initial module that can be done for free so anyone can familiarize themselves with the functionality of this solution. On the other hand, however, there could be more free online courses. Maybe even with a certificate, this would broaden the group of people who are familiar with the platform while increasing familiarity with the solution itself.
