People and projects are the heart and soul of a business. So Deltek created Vantagepoint, which they present as a powerful, intuitive solution that helps users manage projects from start to finish. Deltek Vantagepoint’s 360-degree view of projects puts client, project and financial details in a single location. The vendor states this adds up to making well-informed tactical and strategic business decisions and a more efficient, productive and profitable company.

They each have similar characteristics but also each has had things that are positive and negative. Yardi has really nice dashboard features that make looking at things at a glance easy for management and owners. Deltek Vision is easy to use. Sage was the least user-friendly.
I have used Vision/Vantagepoint with 5 different companies. Where the business model is project-based it works very well. This is the rule for most AEC companies. My current organization does not really have a project-based business model as they have many, many small "projects" that never get entered into Vantagepoint as it would be time prohibitive to do so. This makes the use of the system very limited for all employees outside of accounting and unreliable for reporting pipeline and historical revenue data. This is not the fault of Deltek, however, just an observation of how it is used with my current company.
It is very well suited for Project Accounting - we have thousands of Project codes in the system. I wish it were easier to make changes to data already entered. You have to jump through hoops to make any changes or corrections and timing is everything.
Deltek is a very integrated system for accounting purposes. It stores documents as support for postings (e.g. AP invoices) so you can easily access the source information.
Time tracking for our consultants is a must and Deltek has a good platform for tracking time and for accounting for time.
Deltek has the ability to run almost any kind of report that you could possibly think of! There are fields for almost everything and if there aren't specific fields you can add them.
Deltek Vision's use of the desktop browser interfaces could use some major upgrades. It's not very user-friendly. When a field is left blank it would prevent the user from saving the timesheet but would not clearly inform the user where the error has occurred.
Deltek Vision should provide a simple method to print summaries like have its own built-in pdf export program instead of relying on a 3rd party program like Adobe.
It is ok to use; it is not the easiest to use in terms of usability and user-friendliness but it is not the worst. It still feels somewhat outdated. Many cloud options are cleaner or look more modern. But it is good enough and you should be able to get the hang of it.
It's on the verge of being awesome. Right now it's a matter of money -- if you have the money to hire consultants round the clock, yeah this is awesome.
I would rate Deltek VantagePoint highly in terms of the overall support. You can receive support any time you need it and there is a representative from Deltek assigned to your account so that you can always get the help when you need it. Sometimes, they want to go more in-depth than I would like, however.
BQE Core. I think that BQE Core is definitely harder to use, and has a lot of features atleast from the users perspective that dont seem entirely neccesary. Deltek is very straight forward and easy to use.
We have used Deltek Vision and previous versions (names) of the product since the early 1990's. We are engaged in the system and are committed to the continued use of the product. I have long supported the value added to our company and benefits realized by our users.
We went from using a DOS-based accounting system that all the management had to go to Accounting for a weekly printout of status reports, and there wasn't much visibility into the network. Deltek Vision gave our PMs and management information at their fingertips, without having to wait on someone else to get the info.
A lot of quality control was handled outside of an electronic system through Microsoft Excel forms. With Deltek Vision's user-defined functions, we were able to bring those functions into a system that could then be reported on, send automatic reminders, and create dashboards. This has been hugely beneficial in not losing sight of action items etc.
