Lightspeed Classroom Management vs. Unique Learning System

I find the telling time lessons to be too difficult to use. I also think some more phonics activities aligned with other reading curriculums would be great. I love the stories and the activities that go with the high frequency words and the comprehension of the stories. Ithink the movement and sequence with the math lessons (specifically 19a and 19b) are very well-organized.

• There are 5th grade benchmarks but no work to support the benchmarks.
• Benchmarks need to be isolated per grade/function level. There are too many to choose from.
• Maybe a pre-made benchmark test design to meet grade level skill base.
• Kids are bored after a while using N2Y. They are interested in programs like iReady or IXL instead because of more challenging materials and more engagement.

This is a great program and very beneficial to teachers of students with learning disabilities. The students have different levels of scaffolding that help them be successful in learning about different topics from Reading to Math, Social Studies, Science and even Life Skills. Each unit has a recipe to make different types of foods that are theme with the unit.

The individuals helping have always been great. The response to requests for changes in functionality or reporting less so.

Unique Learning System provides a full, standards-aligned curriculum with built-in differentiation and assessments, making lesson planning and IEP documentation much easier. While News2you works best as a supplement rather than a complete instructional framework, I find students get bored of it quickly. My district requires us to use Unique Learning System as our adapted curriculum, but I am very thankful.

• It helps build appropriate IEP goals based on data from benchmarks and checkpoints.
• It has shown student progress in the units, as we typically see growth from pre-assessment to post-assessment each month!
