Macrium Reflect

The free version of Macrium Reflect is licensed for both commercial and personal use. It works well on MS Windows computers, but cannot back up servers, where a paid version is required. The free version does full and differential backups, but not incremental as do the paid versions. If a large volume of files are added every day, a paid version would be more suitable as it supports incremental backups. The Macrium Reflect server version is very suitable for backing up physical servers.

MSP360 Backup (formerly CloudBerry Backup)

For any Managed Service Provider (MSP) that offers backups services to its clients, Cloudberry MBS is a winning solution. It is fast, powerful, flexible and priced to provide room for decent profit margins for the MSP. MSP's that handle clients so large that they need Appliance-based backups and recovery will need more sophisticated (read pricier) solutions, but for the vast majority of customers that have 1-10 servers, CloudberryLab MBS is an excellent solution.

MSP360 Backup (formerly CloudBerry Backup)

  • Low cost backup solution for servers and workstations that is easy to setup and manager and it works!
  • I love the file level backups with ransomware protection also. Perfect for file servers.

Cons

Macrium Reflect

  • Capability to create an image file to restore directly to a cloud computer
  • Use a different default naming pattern for backup files
  • Support for Linux

MSP360 Backup (formerly CloudBerry Backup)

  • The CloudBackup Drive has some issues.
  • Would be nice to have a single interface to manage all my servers.
  • Requires a console on each machine being backed up.

I love Cloudberry. I am using it at three different sites to backup their mission critical file servers and it works great. It is a very cost effective backup solution that is easy to setup and use and the support is also very good. I would recommend it to anyone that needs a good backup solution for their business.

They have a great app with more backups. It can be confusing to provide and push backups until you get used to it. Auto-renew is also a little weird with the licenses.

We have not been opening tickets for support from Macrium at the moment, only for licencing issues, but good attention and fast response by the support team. They respond pretty fast to our emails and fixed our issues giving us a good explanation of our case without any complications. Due to the good functionality of the software we have not opened a ticket for support in years.

It's easy to set up, but a few things prevent it from being great. All the computers require one license. You have to stay on top of it, otherwise you fill up data storage with outdated and unused data. It's super easy to call CloudBerry for support and they are very friendly to work with. It's difficult as a tech when you want to fix the issue, but you are relying on technical support. Many times an error happens and you cannot find a single issue. The only solution is to update the application and hope the newest build fixed the issue.

Easy and successful implementation and the results have been very good with no issues since the install and go live. I highly recommend Cloudberry Backup software to anyone needing an easy to install, setup and manage backup solution. Excellent product with great features and reliability at a very good price point.

Alternatives Considered

Macrium Reflect

Veeam offers Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, a product we also install and use. It compares favorably with Macrium Reflect; however, for small firms and individual wanting an added cloud backup of their full hard drive, Macrium wins out in requiring less cloud storage space by a significant margin.ShadowProtect is a rock solid competitor with a higher price and no free version. It is highly dependable, but more complicated to install and set up.The number of technical issues and quality of technical support have ruled out Acronis products.MSP360 Backup has impressive technology, but we encountered issues with restore times and full drive image restores.

The MSP360 web management portal is unbeatable. It makes management and fault correction much easier. Unfortunately, Veeam does not have this without setting up a specific server for this purpose.

Return on Investment

Macrium Reflect

  • Improved our time on backups
  • More secure backups of our databases

MSP360 Backup (formerly CloudBerry Backup)

  • We spend little time managing the backups once deployed.
  • It is a little more expensive than other backup solutions by the time you figure in the cloud storage portion.
