MongoDB

Mongo DB is better placed in large projects, with great scalability. It also allows you to work quite comfortably with projects based on programming languages such as javascript angular typescript C #. I believe that its performance is much better with the type of technologies that handle very logical, similar terms of programming. If we use languages like java php, for example, it is better to work with relational databases like postgres or mySql. Since this type of technology allows you to work better with database management frameworks much more agile for these environments, such as JPA, HIBERNATE, Oracle, I think they are much better with this type of architecture and programming languages.

Oracle Data Integrator

Oracle Data Integrator is well suited in all the situations where you need to integrate data from and to different systems/technologies/environments or to schedule some tasks. I've used it on Oracle Database (Data Warehouses or Data Marts), with great loading and transforming performances to accomplish any kind of relational task. This is true for all Oracle applications (like Hyperion Planning, Hyperion Essbase, Hyperion Financial Management, and so on).I've also used it to manage files on different operating systems, to execute procedures in various languages and to read and write data from and to non-Oracle technologies, and I can confirm that its performances have always been very good.It can become less appropriate depending on the expenses that can be afforded by the customer since its license costs are quite high.

Pros

MongoDB

  • Easy to learn. When I picked up MongoDB for the first time, I had little background in database management or modeling. If you have a background in javascript (and JSON)... then you can figure out how to use MongoDB pretty fast.
  • Fast performance.
  • It's relatively easy to set up in certain environments because there are lots of ready-made solutions out there.
  • There's a lot of support in the existing ecosystem for it —, especially in the node.js realm.
  • Query syntax is pretty simple to grasp and utilize.
  • Aggregate functions are powerful.
  • Scaling options.
  • Documentation is quite good and versioned for each release.

Oracle Data Integrator

  • Oracle Data Integrator nearly addresses every data issue that one can expect. Oracle Data Integrator is tightly integrated to the Oracle Suite of products. This is one of the major strengths of Oracle Data Integrator. Oracle Data Integrator is part of the Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Suite - which is highly used by various industries. This tool replaced Informatica ETL in Oracle Business Intelligence Applications Suite.
  • Oracle Data Integrator comes with many pre-written data packages. If one has to load data from Excel to Oracle Database, there is a package that is ready available for them - cutting down lot of effort on writing the code. Similarly, there are packages for Oracle to SQL, SQL to Oracle and all other possible combinations. Developers love this feature.
  • Oracle Data Integrator relies highly on the database for processing. This is actually an ELT tool rather than an ETL tool. It first loads all the data into target instance and then transforms it at the expense of database resources. This light footprint makes this tool very special.
  • The other major advantage of Oracle Data Integrator, like any other Oracle products, is a readily available developer pool. As all Oracle products are free to download for demo environments, many organizations prefer to play around with a product before purchasing it. Also, Oracle support and community is a big advantage compared to other vendors.

Cons

MongoDB

  • I love the idea of Map-Reduce native support in MongoDB. Admittedly I have not used it as much as I would like -- it always seems to trip me up.
  • Recent additions to the aggregation queries have helped reduce (no pun intended) my need to better wield the weapon that is Map-Reduce.

Oracle Data Integrator

  • ODI does not have an intuitive user interface. It is powerful, but difficult to figure out at first. There is a significant learning curve between usability, proficiency, and mastery of the tool.
  • ODI contains some frustrating bugs. It is Java based and has some caching issues, often requiring you to restart the program before you see your code changes stick.
  • ODI does not have a strong versioning process. It is not intuitive to keep an up to date repository of versioned code packages. This can create versioning issues between environments if you do not have a strong external code versioning process.

This is a very convenient "go to" database for application CRUD operations. So many applications need to create, read, update, and delete records. Here's the trick though - as a product changes, the data does as well. Having a database that makes this process easy and avoids the need to manage a schema and migrations is extremely valuable.MongoDB may not be the tool for every need but it is often always a tool that gets used for some need or another.

I'm not a database expert by any means. But MongoDB has helped lower the barrier to entry in the world of full stack development. It has an expressive and easy to understand syntax and API. Additionally, their documentation is really quite detailed and easy to follow. Anyone with javascript experience should be able to work with it.

While the setup and configuration of MongoDB is pretty straight forward, having a vendor that performs automatic backups and scales the cluster automatically is very convenient. If you do not have a system administrator or DBA familiar with MongoDB on hand, it's a very good idea to use a 3rd party vendor that specializes in MongoDB hosting. The value is very well worth it over hosting it yourself since the cost is often reasonable among providers.

Alternatives Considered

MongoDB

MongoDB was the most full-featured NoSQL database we evaluated - that offered atomic transactions at a document level, built-in HA & DR, open source, robust queries, and enterprise level support.Other platforms had specific parts of what we were looking for - MongoDB had it all.

Oracle Data Integrator

I have used the Pentaho Data Integrator ETL tools in different projects with the SQL Server Integration Services product from the Microsoft product family. Oracle Data Integrator ETL product is efficient in projects where Oracle databases are heavily used. The end-user interface of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) is quite simple and straightforward. It also has an active user community. You can find solutions in these communities for the problems you are experiencing. Since the Pentaho Data Integrator ETL is an open-source application, you can bring your ETL design costs to a very reasonable level. This project will contribute positively to your expenses.

Return on Investment

MongoDB

  • Much faster development time.
  • Price is fantastic compared to MSSQL when you consider OS costs and the entire package.
  • Only negative to me is the lack of DBA skills for it, due to it being a new player in the field. I feel like that will get better as time moves on however.

Oracle Data Integrator

  • Lead time to complete data integration and transformation project was reduced due to Oracle Data Integrator tools that helped in setting up transformations relatively quickly once it was set up.
  • Reduced lead time helped in reducing project cost as less resources were spent in data conversion project.
  • Overall data consolidation project resulted in quick integration of data from varied DBMS and data sources.
