It is more suited to environments that have a large internal user base since there will be more incidents that require forensic analysis. It will be less suited for environments that have a small internal user base due to the fact that there would be fewer incidents that require forensic analysis, but it really depends on the industry that a small internal user base is a part of.

I have experience with Watchguard Endpoint Security (EPDR) with small companies of five or more endpoints to large companies with hundreds of endpoints and find it well-suited for both types and everything in between. However, it is particularly good for companies with lean IT departments due to the awesomely automated and intelligent tools it provides for quick investigation and response. Also, its automated white list approval process for unknown executables is extremely fast thereby reducing and sometimes even eliminating delays that could impair employee performance.

Pros
OpenText
  • Functionality meets minimal requirements, since it performs forensic investigations as advertised.

WatchGuard Technologies
  • Centralized management makes monitoring simple.
  • Deployment is quick, easy, and automatable.
  • Zero Trust means exactly that - if a process is not KNOWN to be safe, it is blocked until evaluated.
  • IT managers can block or grant authority to override the automatic protection in case of the immediate need to allow a process known to be safe.

Cons
OpenText
  • Their UI definitely needs to be more user-friendly, right now it is very cumbersome to run and view investigations.
  • Authentication mechanism should be a simple username/password, not certificate-based which is difficult to manage.
  • Needs better support documentation for the product, it is difficult to find solutions to issues that we run into.

WatchGuard Technologies
  • As with any application of this nature, it can block processes or other suspected security risks that are actually safe.
  • While easy to use, it sometimes provides less learning opportunities for less experienced staff who are not as well-versed in these applications.

The ease of use, pricing, support, reliability, and quality of the product. Panda / WatchGuard products are highly rated, priced right and easy to maintain. All of this make it very easy to renew and purchase new licenses for us and our clients.

Easy and intuitive MSP management portal to manage all of your clients from a single pane of glass. Policies can be pushed down globally or individually based on needs. The client portal allows access to their tenant information and installs only which is nice if you are working with clients who might have an internal person or an IT team that also wants access to things to manage themself.

The software is 100% managed on a cloud platform that can be managed via an account even if they are not present within the company network where the software is installed, I even always opened the control panel on the browser of my smartphone to monitor the situation.I have never experienced any abnormal software crashes

The only annoyance I complain, if we want to be picky, is the fact of the constant disconnections from the control panel.Every about 4 hours the account logs out even if I set the "remember this device" flag; having said that I have not noticed neither slowdowns nor conflicts with other software

Support Rating
OpenText
Because support is non-existent whenever you have a functionality issue using the product. Also since the UI is so cumbersome to use we could use as much support as possible. Whenever we ask for support we are told to take the training which costs us more money. I believe that support should be easily accessible and affordable for the client

I gave it a 10 because I compare it to air conditioning. I need it to work every day, 24/7. I need it to be reliable and not something that requires a ton of interaction from staff to make sure it works every day. In addition, I should be able to run other things at my house when the AC is on. Panda fits that description.

The software goes manually on a PC only on the company network and then proceeds through that PC to install the software on all the other clients through the control panel where all the clients / servers on the network are detected with extreme speed and ease of execution, even for uninstallation and remote control over scans

The other forensic tool that is a direct competitor to EnCase and wasn't listed above is the Forensic Toolkit or FTK. I believe that FTK is a better tool overall simply because it is easier to manage and use when it comes to investigations. Unfortunately, I wasn't part of the decision process and EnCase was the tool selected, otherwise, I would have recommended FTK.

Very similar. I feel like Watchguard need to get a better foothold with people trusting the name in the endpoint space. It has pretty much everything S 1 does but it also provides so much more. Simple things like patch management and encryption are fantastic adding that deliver true security value

With the implementation of watchguard (at the beginning Panda Endpoint, but it is the same) I was able to insert in the control panel all the unauthorized software previously installed by colleagues without any authorization from the various department heads. Now any licensed software goes into lockdown and can be unlocked from the control panel

  • One negative impact would be that since the UI is cumbersome to use we would need to spend more money on training which is not always feasible.
  • Another negative impact would be that since there is not much support available this slows down investigations due to finding out how to troubleshoot and fix functionality issues.
  • One positive impact would be that since it meets minimal requirements when it comes to forensic analysis it gives us visibility on any malicious activity occurring on a user's endpoint.

  • [...] The ability to make website URL and category viewing restrictions resulted in higher productive personnel and reduced the risks of infection.
  • For the IT department, the centralised management console with all the information and tasks prepared to deploy to the endpoints helps us work more efficiently and faster.
  • The ROI has been really good along [the] years, with a safer environment our employees work better and without stress, that translates in productivity.
