PitchBook
Chose PitchBook
PitchBook has the most accurate and complete data. CB Insights platform loads slightly more quickly and is a little more intuitive, but lacks data integrity. Tracxn is not easy to use, but offers some data on a lot of international and small, non-VC or PE-backed companies. …
Chose PitchBook
PitchBook is the most polished and the most comprehensive tool of everything that I have tries in this space. Unparalleled coverage and structure. And to top it all of, the customer service is top notch. I have analyst hours each month to get any customized projects done by …
Chose PitchBook
PitchBook is seen as the industry gold standard
Chose PitchBook
PitchBook is by far the more reliable source for non public companies. This helps a lot in the entrepreneurial and Venture Capital space.

Other platforms may be better suited for other tasks that are not related to SMEs, VC, or Startups.
Tracxn
Chose Tracxn
Tracxn lacks the comprehensiveness of a CBInsights but makes up for some of it by keeping a much lower price. However, it is still more expensive compared to some of the other similar databases in the marketplace (e.g. Crunchbase, DealRoom). Hence, it needs to work on its …

PitchBook
PitchBook is excellent for building a rolodex of contacts, especially for firms which may be newer and lacking an established reputation within their given industry. I have used it as a tool to identify groups which may be interested in equity investments in one-off real estate deals, though the platform more prominently features groups which are more interested in programmatic/JV fund structures. PitchBook can also be useful as a tool for identifying industry trends, as it tends to capture creation of new funds and their investment appetites at any given time.

Well suited: - Good for scouting targets for clients, based on their industry preferences, maturity level, and investor profile preference - Helped in buy-side due diligence. Less appropriate - Lacking in terms of readily available insights, with sector reports published in-house being extremely shallow and hence not much of value addition.

Cons
PitchBook
  • It would be nice to have the best parts of the deal tab merged into the general information tab for a company.
  • If possible, gather more information on certain executives. There are use cases where our clients want us to research candidates who may not have much information on LinkedIn or RocketReach.

  • Sector reports could be better e.g. competitors like CB Insights do a better job at it.
  • Pricing is a bit steep, when compared to peers like Dealroom.
  • Credibility of the data is a question mark (CB Insights has way more traction with investors).

Usability
PitchBook
I think its a great platform as is. Its usable and we get most of the information as and when we need. I don't like the landing page after login, so I don't like to go to PitchBook every day to review daily updates on the industry. It's way too cluttered and requires MFA every time

Support Rating
PitchBook
The overall support for PitchBook is about average. It is not excellent for two primary reasons. First, PitchBook can run slow from time to time, and I cannot copy and paste from the Chrome extension. I have found neither of those issues to be a function of the computer I am using. However, the PitchBook support team has proved helpful on several occasions.

I also use SignalNFX, but it doesn't exist in the dropbox. Signal is a much more practical tool when it comes to a preliminary search, and when it comes to connecting with the right person. It scrapes your gmail history and linkedin to find who you're really connected to and figures out how to leverage that to get an intro. Sales NAVIGATOR is better for massive outbound, but not very relevant otherwise. PitchBook's real value is in the database. It won't help you reach out, but it sure will find you every single VC firm that could ever invest in your company.

This beats all of the other programs. I have used all of them and Tracxn makes using the software so much easier. Using it daily I found out that it has an easy learning curve and a user-friendly interface. Data is more organized in this program as well.

Return on Investment
PitchBook
  • It has allowed us to be more targeted in our sales campaigns.
  • Great headhunting and market mapping data.
  • We have been in a very difficult hiring market so it hasn't given me the ROI I would have hoped, but that isn't PitchBook's fault!
