VMware Fusion

VMWare Fusion is perfectly suited for an application developer because it allows the dev to create cross-platform applications across the entire spectrum of operating systems without changing devices. An example of where it is less appropriate would be an environment where users are not required or have no need, to use multiple operating systems.

Pros

VMware Fusion

  • Getting around the settings of VMware Fusion is very intuitive, I've never had trouble finding or tweaking a setting (hard disk increase for example).
  • Creating and restoring Snapshots is very easy and useful.
  • Installing and pulling in a previously created VM is very simple.

Cons

VMware Fusion

  • With OSX - 10.14.1 and the latest version of Fusion - 11.0.2 the user interface has taken a step back IMHO.
  • I would like to see price decrease.
  • Better remote host connection capabilities - remote server connections are available but connections are spotty.

For Apple workstations VMware Fusion is the virtualization software to use. No other application (free or paid) can do what Fusion can. The features and constant updates make Fusion an application that cant be beat.

As I have said 3-4 times in this review, VMware fusion is the best application for system vitalization on Apple Workstations. I have tried all the others and you get what you pay for in the cases of free applications. Even when tested against paid options, Fusion is the best for me and my team.

Honestly, we never had any issue so there was no need to reach out to support for anything. I would assume that given experience by others as well, they are not too busy.

This is a workstation application and no install insights are needed.

Alternatives Considered

VMware Fusion

To be fair, with other products, if pricing was a problem for the organization, I would choose VirtualBox, because it works very well on Mac environment and it has most of the features that VMware Fusion has. However, I personally like the way I can run my Microsoft Windows application without losing my MacOS context.

Return on Investment

VMware Fusion

  • This had a positive impact because I did not have to purchase an additional computer (Windows PC) just to run a couple of Windows-only apps.
  • This is a time-saver because it is easy to switch back and forth between the Windows and Mac environments on one computer.
