Appian is best suited for those, where the number of users is not huge. The reason behind this is its cost. We can have an intra-organization app using this platform. We can also develop a backend system in Appian for public apps. For public apps, login & users cost can make it a highly costly app.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Appian is a digital transformation tool in which it streamlines and complement human operations in order to reduce highly manual intensive tasks. It is one of the best Low code base platform and we used it for Intelligent automation and Customer management. Since Power apps was more expensive with less features we used Appian to design apps in HRO processes and automated the contract generation process. It was also used in some of the intelligent automation to extract data elements from PDF documents. It can be enhanced to add functionality like sentiment analysis like we have it in other industry standard tools. Workflow automation is what it is at its best currently.

Pros

  • workflow management
  • Low code no code

  • AI & ML functionalities

Likelihood to Recommend

Best suited for intelligent automation, dashboard and report creation, workflow management. Apps creation for various processes.

Less suited for advanced level of automation, AI & ML based analysis like Neural networks, sentiment analysis. Other area of improvement is to add more visualisations and a learning based system with which one can get certified and learn more about the tool.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize it to create automated workflows in several different back-office areas. It has replaced several single-sourced systems which did not allow for easy development or integration. We definitely appreciate the low code aspect of development and the ability to rapidly deploy new workflows.

Pros

  • Low code for rapid deployment.
  • Great search capabilities.
  • New features deployed frequently.
  • Strong customer focus.

Cons

  • Some constraints on custom reporting.
  • Version management could be more flexible.
  • Could integrate with other 3rd party deployment tools.

Likelihood to Recommend

Appian works great for automating manual processes and integrating multiple systems through its toolset. It gives great flexibility for establishing rules for approvals, routings, escalations, and the like. Because of the low code toolset, it's very easy to deploy and make changes as needed as processes evolve and as the organization learns to utilize the system better. Minimal maintenance is required to support the applications build on the platform. Some of the automated testing integration with tools like Jenkins is limited so that may be an issue for some.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Within my organization, Appian is utilized to provide a tracking solution for contractors going through the recruitment and placement process. My organization has built integration setups where Appian can receive updates and display them in real-time from external applications. This makes Appian a useful tool because all parts of the onboarding process are stored within Appian, rather than having to go to external applications and check on status results.

Pros

  • Ease of Use - users of all ages find this system easy to operate on a daily basis due to the clear layout of the application itself.
  • Customization - with Appian, anything is possible. My organization has used Appian to build a fully customized piece of software that hundreds of users work in on a daily basis.
  • User Management - Appian provides an easy solution to provision and de-provision users to the Application.

Cons

  • Reporting - my organization decided to integrate a separate reporting tool within Appian rather than relying on the reporting capabilities Appian currently has.

Likelihood to Recommend

Appian is well suited for companies looking to automate manual processes. Appian allows for multiple customized integrations which are great for process automation. My organization currently has 3 external company integrations and 3 internal company integrations set up within Appian that provides ease of use for our users. Overall, Appian has greatly improved our processing time.
