BrightHR is great for logging sickness for employees and holidays and takes away the pain of doing it manually- no second guessing if you made a note on staff records - it’s all there at your fingertips - e-learning is a great tool for employee productivity and highlights were staff may need a little more help
While we previously used BrightHR many years ago we have returned due to how well the system works for us. It is easy to navigate, manage and make amendments. It gives you the same options as all other "higher end" HR systems for a fair price and great support.

After using a different system we found that BrightHR just works. Our staff prefer using the system, it makes sense and is simple.
In a small business that requires HR Support and Services but can't afford a dedicated HR Person, the tools and services BrightHR have given us have really helped us bridge the gap. Tasks like recording Holidays, Annual Leave, Expenses, Overtime etc. are much easier now and as a result much more accurate.

We originally recorded holidays by paper and verbal approvals, this was messy across the business as approvals weren't always recorded correctly meaning the business did not always know when employees were on annual leave. BrightHR has made recording annual leave incredibly easier, as it's all managed online rather than trying to track down paper copies.
BrightHR has allowed us to stream line throughout the organisation, we have now got personal information uploaded and available at the touch of a button. It allows staff members to be independent and accountable for booking there own holidays and leave dates, rather than filling out a paper form, it also helps with looking through holiday dates when needed and keeping totals correct.

Less appropriate: We wanted to move our staff rota over to BrightHR to make this easier for staff and managers, but we found it was very clunky and wouldn't show total numbers of staff on a given date, we also found that it wouldn't distinguish between long day shifts and shorter shifts, so this was not feasible.
Calendar - When booking holidays users can only see their own departments bookings. We need to see holiday bookings across the company but if we give access to all users they can see all other company records that they cannot have access to. The Calendar aspect needs to be universal. Can this be done without giving access to all other records on individuals accounts?

When uploading training certificates being able to upload straight from the course once completed to an individuals record rather than having to download the certificate and then upload to individuals record separately.
Definition of holiday 'with bank holidays included' and 'without bank holidays included' and being able to change this function if needed.

We use BrightHR to for storing employee information, document management, e-learning, managing holiday and other absences, tracking employees objectives and tracking employee hours (via Blip app).

You can’t add events to the leave calendar or mark periods of restricted leave which means line managers have to check a separate calendar before approving leave.
Any admins receive all holiday requests which clogs up their inboxes. Need more flexible role types so you can select who receives notifications.
System doesn’t stop employees requesting holiday when they have used up their allowance.
E-learning doesn’t record if an employee completes training assigned to them. The training certificate has to be manually uploaded and the line manager has to remove the training assignment so the employee stops receiving reminders.

BrightHR has made it so much easier for us to manage our HR function and we like the simplicity of the interface. There are a few frustrating issues (see cons), but these could easily be corrected in future releases which would make the system even better.
