What is Buildkite?

Buildkite is a CI and build automation tool that combines the power of the user's own build infrastructure with the convenience of a managed, centralized web UI.

With it, users can automate complicated delivery pipelines or ops tasks with custom fields, and unblock them via the web or the API with a full log of who did what when. Dynamic pipeline definitions allow the user to generate pipelines with code, and modify running pipelines. Users can build abstractions to automate common workflows and tools.

Buildkite’s web interface allows users to monitor, control and visualize all your pipelines in one place, while still having quick access to builds. Treat infrastructure as code with scheduled builds, separate agent queues, concurrency controls, and dynamic pipeline logic.

Buildkite is a versatile tool that provides automation for product builds and delivery, offering simplicity in agent setup and configuration. Users have found great value in using Buildkite to scale their CI/CD processes with their teams, ensuring there are no slowdowns or delays in the development cycle. With Buildkite, users can manage CI across a wide range of applications, including monolithic, microservice, serverless, and infrastructure code. One of the major advantages of using Buildkite is its managed CI/CD service, which eliminates the need for internal maintenance of a similar service. Additionally, Buildkite agents can run securely within users' infrastructure, enabling both CI and CD to be done using the same tool without compromising on security. This makes it an attractive option for organizations looking for an efficient and secure solution to automate their build and deployment processes.

Buildkite also empowers users to construct customized CI pipelines within their infrastructure clusters, giving them full control over access and security. This flexibility is particularly useful when applying Terraform changes as Buildkite provides features like global concurrency control and user approval requests. By orchestrating builds and releases for key applications, Buildkite streamlines the development process and enables developers to save time by running pre-check-in builds on BuildKite agents instead of locally. The results are then reported back to platforms like GitHub, making collaboration seamless. Another noteworthy benefit of using Buildkite is its cost-competitive nature while still allowing users to maintain control over their machines and eliminating the need for maintaining the entire CI software stack. For example, StreetOne LLC leverages Buildkite for API building tasks on their platform, benefiting from its ability to handle complex task execution, monitoring, and notifications. Overall, Buildkite proves itself as a reliable and adaptable tool that has garnered positive feedback from users in various industries for its ability to simplify CI/CD processes and enable efficient software delivery.
